I am about to purchase a FX - 8350, and top it with a CM 212 EVO HSF... My question is: Would this cooler be sufficent enough to overclock this CPU to 4.5 Ghz at safe temps, preferably without bumping the voltage? The Cooler will also be using two fans in push/pull in a CM Storm Enforcer case, with good airflow. I know every chip is different, but generally speaking unless I get a dud overclocker, is this Overclocking set up achieveable?
Thank you in Advance,
Myke
mine sits at 22 degrees with push pull, on the 212 evo and the room is normally 15-17c this time of year on stock clock, i havent tried over clocking but i see 45-47 degrees playing games for a few hours
4.5gHz with a 212 is not safe. For adequate cooling at that high frequency, I recommend one of the following: a Phanteks PH-TC14PE, a Phanteks PH-TC12DX, a Noctua NH-D14, or a Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-Extreme. 4.5gHz will make the 8350 run realy hot. A 212 is good for around 4.2gHz, but after that, it is pushing its usefulness. I have a Phanteks PH-TC14PE (in black) and it keeps my i7 3770k @ 4.6gHz idle at 29, max (under IntelBurnTest) at 71. I have the 2 stock fans, but when using something like Noctua NF F12 120mm fans or Noctua NF P14 140mm fans, your temps will be even lower. I would rather get something that is more than I need than get something that won't do an adequate job at protectin my components.
Hmmm, well, I'm guessing I can always upgrade and try my hand at watercooling with, say, a Corsair H80 or such at a later time. I'll run it at stock 4.0Ghz for now, as I only tend to overclock down the road and not "right out of the box".
I've been reading that the FX 8350 runs quite well on stock alone
Thank you
