Need to choose a motherboard for my new PC, should I go for 990X chipset or stay with 970??? I want a balance between performance and price, it needs to have features such as USB 3.0 header etc
I was thinking along the lines of: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/youmed/saved/3FBM
Yep, that motherboard is appropriate. If you wanted a cheaper motherboard, consider the M5A97 EVO. This can be found in the UK in at least a few vendors. Normally, 970 motherboards do not have a sufficient power delivery for the 8xxx chips. However, the EVO has a digital 6+2 power phase which is sufficient. That will allow you to save money. Though, I would advocate going with the M5A99X Pro. The Pro will enable you to consider dual GPUs, and I think it has a higher power delivery. Should only be about £15 more.
Also, you might consider using Powerline, instead of that wifi adaptor.
yes you can CF on the 970 evo and the 990X evo however, the problem with those 2 boards is that the the 970 evo has 20 pci-e lanes the first slot runs at X16 the second only at X4. so your CF setup will probably only work at X4.
the 990 evo has the same 20 pci-e lanes, but on this board the first slot runs on X16 and the second on X8 the third on X4. so you only be able to run a dual gpu setup on X8 on the 990X chipset.
Thats the reason if you go for dual gpu setups, its better to go for the Asus m5a99FX pro R2.0 because this board has 40 pci-e lanes so you able to run dual gpu at X16.
The asus R2.0 vershons are updated for all the new FX chips some 970 mobo's need bios updates to run some of the FX chips thats why the 'compatibility issues' thing pops up.
