I updated the bios to my motherboard, (AMD 990FX Gaming from MSi), which I had a stable overclock of 4.0 GHz, but when I updated the bios, it went back to original 3.5 MHz, so I attempted to overclock it back, then I encountered this weird +(insert volt here) menu, so I added +.3300v to the 1.2v I already had, and I restarted my system, keep In mind I have a liquid closed loop, so I should be getting 30c no problem. But my computer started to crash and my CPU was running at 60c at idle, so I checked the bios and it had put 1.7v rather then 1.5v, help?
Also keep in mind that I was getting crashes when I was running at 1.5v, and also 60c.
NOTE: I FIXED IT
... Did you actually require 1.5 volts to obtain a 4.0ghz overclock? Most people can do that on the stock voltage.
Is the motherboard the MSI 990FXA-GD80? I have heard that the latest BIOS update did some things with the voltage control (I think it was mostly supposed to cap it off, oddly enough).
Why did you updated your bios?
if there is no specific reason then revert to the older bios and problem solved.
P.s i use 1.4v for my [email protected] that is under heavy load under normal load it's lover.
1.5v i something for a 5.0 oc
I got it running fine now, 4.0 ghz, 1.2v
A penny for your thoughts.
I mean how did you solve your problem?
Lowered the voltage and I actually was able to raise the oc.
That's a pretty good voltage. You might be able to get up to 4.4-4.5ghz on ~1.35v, if you continue to be lucky.
