FX-8320 for gaming

i recently came across a good offer for an FX-8320, and i was wondering if it is really good for gaming, rendering, 3d modeling, animation, and video capturing.
The twist is it would be doing everything but gaming at the same time. The reason i though about going for FX is because there are more cores, which allows for better multitasking, and multitasking is something i will be doing.
so based on cpu alone is that a good multitasking cpu, or should i go intel, which at this price range i can afford?

depends, if you want intel what would you pick?

if i were to go intel, i would likely pick the 3470, because its in the range i have set up with a decent graphics card, but the 3470 is only a 4 core, so it would be able to execute less, right?

I think its the best choice for multitasking on a budget just a get a cheap aftermarket cooler and do a simple overclock to like 4.2 ghz and it will be the best thing for the money for gaming and most other things

it's not as cut and dried as more cores=more power

but in this case i would reccomend the 8320 over a 3470, the 3470 is one of the lower end i5's and it's locked so not really any overclocking, the 8320 is fairly powerful and assuming you get a good chip (i didn't :( ) will overclock quite well

if it was a 3570k or 4670k it would certainly be up for debate, but a 3470 i don't think so

i understand, but more cores usually means better multitasking, correct?

As with any Intel, they have better per core performance. I personaly own an 8320. I OC'ed it to 4.5 GHz. Maxes out all the games I play with no problem.

well, if you were to take something with half the cores, but double the per core performance, then each would multitask just as well as the other

but in practice, yes pretty much "more cores= better multitasking", i just don't want people going around saying that because it's not technically true
