FX 6300 OC'ed vs FX 8320

Supported socket and appropriateness are two different things. Thankfully Thumper has provided some first-hand information up above. You *could* use that motherboard... but do you really want too?

Like I said, if you need a cheaper alternative that is solid for gaming, the 750k and FM2 A75 motherboard would be the way to go. You could run a 270x or 7870 with that CPU and have no problems at all.

Yeah OK thanks thats really helpful. Umm I'm not sure about the BIOS I'll think about how I can check for that. Although I've found a few people talking about it for example this person here on overclockers forum and he seemed to be able to achieve good performance with it. http://www.overclock.net/t/1418383/fx-6300-ga-78lmt-usb3-rev-5-0-overclocking-so-far

I just had a look and replied, thanks.

Yeah the main reason for going for it is budget its pretty much the best price considering it has half decent VRMs. Pretty much a 40$ jump to the next thing I would consider and unfortunately I can't find any 750ks in Australia after searching Staticice - an electronics price comparison site in Australia.

Unfortunately a stable overclock doesn't have much to do with it. APM is a power management feature that when the CPU is under load and hits it max TDP or exceeds it, it will throttle, regardless of stability and temps.

Before they fixed it for me with a BIOS update I had my CPU "stable" at 4.4Ghz with a peak temp of around 55c, sadly it would randomly hit that max TDP though and throttle down to 1.6GHz or there abouts.

Please don't mistakenly think I am being ass! I would just hate to see someone go through the stress I did trying to get Gigabyte to fix it, it took three months.

Australia sucks! Don't know how my family lives there. Not only do you have to contend with massive spiders and dangerous kangaroos(!) but you don't even have good PC part choices!

Oh trust me you're not being an ass I'm learning thanks. Ok umm at what point in time did you have that board just out of curiosity? Yeah I'll try and look for some stories of stable overclocks and look for some people who've been using their overclocks for a while and ask them. Thanks very much. A fellow Queenslander I see :) Edit: I will make sure they've had theirs for a fair amount of time. I've seen a few posts from a few months ago I'll ask.

They breed 'em tough down here.

I just found somebody posting about throttling with the fx 6300 and they said this "FLASH IT! The newest bios has the APM feature to rid the CPU of throttling." When replying to somebody who had issues. I think they might have solved that issue?

Good to hear.

I had mine around 12 months ago.

If you have any questions or need help just let me know.

Thanks very much, you've been very helpful. And so have the others of course. I think I might tread carrefully but I might choose this one.
