Hey guys I recently overclocked to my cpu to 4.4, and I mean my hyper 212+ is cooling it to like 65c max, but damn is it loud now. So do you think I should throw a huge heatsink on there or just go to liquid cooling. And If I go to liquid cooling, what kind should I get? Thanks!
Liquid cooling is over rated, just buy a xigmatek dark knight 2 hawk edition or any other high end air cooler unless you want to spend over $120.
Noctua nh-d14!
I was looking at that, but for the same price I could get a corsair h80i
I second the Noctua NH-D14. Going water is only worth it if you buy one of the big guys (like an H100). By the way, 65 degrees is pretty much the limit on that chip... I wouldn't run it at that temp all the time, maybe wind the clocks back by 200mhz and drop the vcore some. All it would take would be a really unexpectedly hot day and you could have trouble on your hands there...
My FX-6300 is itching for more OC, but at the moment it's topping out at about 50 degrees at 4ghz under Prime95, so I won't push it further until I get a better cooler (old CM TX3 at the moment).
I have the mult bumped up to 21, I left the clock FSB at 200. and I think my vcore is 1.425, otherwise it won't run stable it'll randomly shut off
Max temp for that chip is 65c i took mine up to 4.3ghz but it just wasent stable failed a over night prime 95 test @ 4.3/4.2/4.1ghz....4ghz was stable on a 8hr test but the temps where too hot
if 65C is the max temp you're seeing and it's too loud? turn the fans down, i'm sure you can live with 75C or a little more.
The maximum temperature that most people agree on for these chips is 65 degrees - I'm fairly sure it would shut off by 70 degrees based on the OC reports I've been reading...
Hey Avant, how hot is it in the part of the world you live in? I'm just thinking about those temps of yours and I think 65 seems too high for that cooler and that chip... Unless the Bulldozers were A LOT hotter than the Piledrivers that seems like it's not right to me.
Did you try re-seating your existing cooler? Is it one of the ones with the small gaps between the heat pipes on the mounting plate? If so they require a bit of special attention in applying the TIM to get the best result.
I have 2 Noctua fans on my Corsair h110 and I love it. I have it on an fx-8120 @ 4.51ghz and ive never sene it over 52 celcius. I also recomened the zalaman cnps14x it was just a couple degrees warmer.
Well It's Florida, but right now it's about 70F outside, i try and keep it 73F-75F in my room. I'm going to try reapply my thermal paste soon to see if that helps, I think it should
