Fx-4170 oc

Hey guys :)

I'm new here, decided to sign up after watching Logan's Youtube video on the FX-8350 vs i5-3570K. His video directly influenced my purchase decisions for a budget gaming PC. I hope to get to know you guys, make a few friends, and help each other out here on the forums :)

Just to note, I'm writing from Saudi. Price and availability of parts here differ from the US.

Been shopping around and managed to find the FX-4170 for $89. Looked around for motherboards, the best 970 chipset I was able to find was the ASRock 970 Extreme3. My GPU is a Sapphire 6850 and my PSU is a Corsair CX500 V2.

I will be purchasing a CM Hyper 212 EVO for overclocking.

Now my questions:

1) How far can I OC the FX-4170 on the 970 Extreme3?

2) Is there a guide you can show me to properly overclock?

3) What about cooling? VRM and MOSFETS in particular?

All help would be appreciated, looking forward to hearing from you guys.

Thanks :)

With the 970 extreme 3 your not gonna be able to overclock aswell.

The 970 ud3 from gigabyte does the job better.

Unfortunately the 970 UD3 is not available where I am. The only other 970 options are the MSI 970A-G46 and Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 (NOT UD3). The cheapest 990FX motherboard is the Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 at $200, which is very steep for my budget.

Can I have an idea as to how far I can overclock the FX-4170 on the Extreme3? My goal is 4.6Ghz, is that achievable?
