I guys it's me again still complaining about things :)
Is it really worth me upgrading my fx 4100 I no it's not a good cpu etc but all I do it game, skype,go on the net. im trying to determine if i really need to spend the 380 odd $ to get a i5 2550k and p8z77m that I have been offered. Will it really make that much of a different or should a wait a year or more till I really do need the upgrade. I'm running a msi gtx 660 tf3 normal 1080p monitor.
or other option is just drop 190 for a fx 6300. (i have a shit board atm asus m5a78l-m lx plus so won't let me over clock.
or get a 6300 and keep my mobo. save money. I only want to upgrade if u guys feel i realy need to
The 2550k is a great upgrade over both of those CPU's.
I would go for a 2500k if you can get it a lot cheaper than the 3570K, there is not much difference between the Sandy and Ivy CPU's.
A cheap upgrade is 6300, but you get what you pay for.
Go FX 6300 or if you can FX 8320, its similar to FX 8350 but less overclockable and considerably cheaper... and FX 6300 is also nice:

Anandtech dint have 2550k to see comparasion...

i5 2550k is 243$ on newegg while FX 6300 is 140 and FX 8320 is 180$, since you have the motheroboard I reccomend just an upgrade... Otherwise it you decide to go Intel way it will cost you most likely 325-350$ for CPU and Mobo together while you can just upgrade the your CPU that is close to i5 2550k and that is FX 6300 and FX 8320. i5 3570k is cheaper than i5 2550k on newegg, so then it will be 300-325$ if you go Intel compared to 140/180$.
But since you are from NZ, I dont know the prices... But if delta/gap betwen prices is smaller than 40$ then go with Intel.
Whats is wrong with the FX4100? for the things you do with youre pc?
in my oppinion the FX4100 is a good cpu for skype and some internet gaming :) nothing wrong with that thing
Its great, but its bulldozer... Not Piledriver, atleast he will get more performance and performance per watt than FX 4100. If he buys FX 6300 he could giveaway to someone, maybe to me ? *__*
i would wait to upgrade until you need to
.
yess ofc the kilowatts blow out youre ears and wallsocket... haha
but okay if he wants more performance in gaming, then he better take a Fx6300 indeed.
but yeah the bulldozer isnt that bad :)
to meny good answers lol. ive been offered the i5 2550k for $10 more then what the fx 6300 cost. $30 less then the fx 8230. but then il have to get anew mobo. but 2bh i should anyway lol
What do you think.
And i shouold be able to sell my mobo and fx4100 for the price of the i5 so realy only paying for the mobo
you can allways give it a try :) but the question to me is, will the i5 2550k perform better then the Fx6300? i think that could be a good question :)

fx 8230? You mean 8320, right? If you want to save up on costs on eletricity the FX 6300 is the go...

i5 2500/2550k has similar performance to i5 3570k, FX 6300 is lets say close and even spends less watts and its close to i5 2550k... Anyway I saw price of eletricity per kwatt and its close, you have like 18-20 right? In my country its from 14 to 20 american cents depending on a zone... Anyway I dont think Anandtech bench is valid since there are no informations on what GPU, RAM and Motherboard are used so I am skeptic.
it depends a bit on wich mainboard you have right now... the i5 is a good way to go, but then you also need a new mainboard.. that cost more money..
if you have an am3+ mainboard right now, you can better but a FX6300 first update youre bios ofc.. the FX8320 ofc is much nicer, but, then it depens on wich mainboard you currently have... for the 8 core i say its better to have a mainboard with a 970 of 990fx chipset..
I think your motherboard can support FX 6300 with a BIOS update, later you could buy a better motherboard.
