He's going for $600

Update:

Is that GPU any good?

What about this?

http://www.microcenter.com/product/429625/GeForce_GTX_750_Ti_Overclocked_2048_GDDR5_PCIe_30x16_Video_Card

The motherboard is staying the same but with a FX 6350.

For the ram he said I can have some of it for my build with the same CPU but different motherboard.

He can't order stuff online so that could be a problem.

We are also searching for a PCI WiFi thingy.

I'm planning on naming it the Quantum nightbird

Also, all of the parts altogether cost around $600, so its pretty cheap

Assuming it's for gaming and typical use, here's what I highly suggest: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MHvWyc

Umm, prepare for some major criticism.

FX-8120 is old architecture.  It's quite slow as well.  A FX-8350 would be much better

Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 has no cooling and is a weak motherboard for the power draw of any 8 core CPU.  Expect either a short lifespan of the motherboard and/or lots of VRM throttling.

GT640.  Weak.  Really weak.  650 ti would be the lowest I'd go.

USB WiFi isn't great for games.  For web browsing, it's fine.

16GB ram is a bit overkill at this price point.  8GB is more suitable, and then money can be put elsewhere.

Of course, my criticisms may vary depending on what your friend plans to do with this computer.

He's trying to go for cheap power so that's why I chose AMD so what you chose probably wont be right

Something like this would be more balanced.

I use USB WiFi and it works great for gaming.
Anyway what he needs is a new motherboard and CPU correct.
He wants to have that RAM so that's gonna stay.
He said he's probably gonna get the GFX card you suggested

+1

Well, it depends which USB cards you use.

If he's using this for games, keep in mind that games will benefit more from a strong GPU than a strong CPU.  Try to grab something like an R9 270 or GTX 760.

+1 nice build Sensei

He could probably get away with 6GB of RAM with that kind of GPU, so 16GB would be stupid.

640 is weak as hell. Would start no lower than a 750 Ti or R7 265.  And I just would not use a AMD FX anymore. Go for a i5 if you can swing it. Or a Pentium G3258 overclocked for 70$ and upgrade to a quad core when you can. This is what I have been recommending for people at a 600$ price point: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/LVmyLk

This build is more inclined for great power efficiency while delivering great performance at the same time, the Pentium G3258 is a very good processor for both gaming and typical use, there are benchmarks online that came from reliable sources like LinusTechTips and Austin Evans - stating that it can trade blows with the i7 4790k and i5 4690k(both @ either 4.5 or 4.8ghz) in gaming while overclocked @4.5 to 4.7 ghz, it even beats AMD's current quad core CPUs like the Athlon 860k(based on AMD's new steam-roller architecture) and 760k - what more can it do if it was tested against an AMD six core? The GTX 750 Ti also consumes less - roughly 60 watts at full load and it beats the R7 260x and trades blows with the R7 265 while consuming half of what the R7 265 actually needs for power. With both CPU and GPU consuming less power - the less heat and more overclocking headroom you get from the Corsair RM450 - which is a very reputable and high quality PSU.

+1 please go with this OP, best build in the thread so far

+1

Listen to sardineboy, some tech noob or cellprocessing. Frankly, the build postet in the OP seriously doesn't make ANY sense. All the parts are either weak our totally outdated, and throwing an 8-core CPU in there won't make up for the rest.

It's been said many many times on this forum and elsewhere, if you are building a budget gaming system, THE GPU IS YOUR MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE BUILD, period. 16Gb of RAM and an 8-core CPU don't give you FPS, a good GPU will.

that gpu  O_0    no no no no no. head the advice from the above posts

The Pentium I would definitely say is a better choice as it only loses to the Athlon is multithreaded games and there's the easy upgrade path to an i5.

Although I would go with an R9 270 instead of the 750 Ti, it's quite a bit more powerful for not much more.

Here's an alternative build that isn't power efficient as the first one I suggested, but faster: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gK8rt6 - it's very similar to Some Tech Noob's build.

yes or an i3. ☺

Also some R9-280 cards are seem to be damm cheap, so also take a look at those. Still i saw some skyrim benchmarks from a 750Ti, and that little card did realy impress me. ☺
