Hey Gang,
I recently threw some parts together for a friend to use as a cheap gift to him from me and some of the guys (we went in on some ram and coughed up an old video card, etc)
Anyway, I tested the rig on an old VGA connected monitor, and it worked great.
He's using a DVI connection to an older monitor someone had laying around and isn't getting any signal from the computer.
I'm not present so I can't physically make sure everything's set up right.
It's either the cable, the port, or the monitor - unless some hardware slipped loose.
Not sure what else would explain the issue.
I'm not missing anything am I?
Either:
- The old monitor your friend has is dead.
- The DVI port on the old monitor your friend has is dead.
- The graphics card's DVI port is dead.
Try a VGA cable, as well as any other monitors he has around the house. Try to rule out any of the above possibilities.
It could also be possible that something slipped during transport.
That's the list I came up with as well...
I'm having him try his large HDMI tv/monitor to see if that resolves the issue.
The card supports HDMI, so that should tell us something.
I suggested he pick up a VGA cable and has me over to make sure he's set it up correctly before he goes out and buys a new monitor. I was going to set it up for him at his place but his wife decided to go ahead and have their first born... So, ho hum.
Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything obvious.
