Friend needs $1300AUD machine

Just the machine, no monitors or performance

I got stuck on CPUs because he's going to be gaming mainly but he will be using it for normal use like notetaking, maybe rendering.

Feel free to help in any way

Probably something like that, maybe skylake if the i7 prices aren't too crazy

He prefers Nvidia for GPU
I was kinda sad myself as I use the R9 390 myself.

Well tell him that nvidia hates freedom and is going to cost him more in the long run if he gets an adaptive sync display, and that their current architecture doesn't look to fully support DX12/Vulkan for the future.

I will... but, 8GB of ram... I mean games are starting to come out requiring 8gb of ram.
I think we should aim for 16GB if possible.

Nice build though, not sure about xenons in a gaming or workstation scenario

Also SDD boot drive and HDD for games would be ideal, preferably SDD large enough to store favorite games.

I ask for a CPU and I get shown up..
;__;

I'm not too sure about server grade CPUs
Would it really be worth it

The Xeon e3-1231-V3 is basicly just a i7-4771 without an igpu and therefor cheaper.
They are totaly fine for gaming etc,

Alright, I'll work with the CPU given. Thanks guys.

On this topic, anyone know any good wifi cards?

I got to this to try and accommodate the Boot drive and 16GB of ram
Yes I am aware of the USB 3.0 header issue, I may fix it if I can fit the budget...

You could fit in the SSD and all that if you dropped down to a 380 over a 390, if he only has a 1080p display the 390 is overkill anyways

So, any good network cards you know off and does the xeon come with a CPU cooler or will I need an aftermarket one...

it comes with a cooler but a shitty one. a 212 evo does great for cheap.

if you want something quiet go noctua or be silent

The Cooler Master 212 evo goes for about 50ish aud which you can basically get a low end water cooler at that price. Go Deepcool.

THe stock cooler from the Xeon is not that bad at all exaly.

There are a few types of stock cooler from Intel. The ones that come with the Xeon seems to be the better version of the i5,i7 stock Intel cooler.

grab a 212 evo heatsink.
they are silent and worth the investment, if your located in Tasmania or a cold part of Victoria then your all good with the stock xeon cooler.

also checkout umart for the entire build, they had some cheap ram last week, 8gb is just enough... a 16gb kit is worth the extra 50 bucks.

Yes they are diffrent, and better. ☺
