I am currently building a freenas box the spec is:
Mobo - Asrock C2750D4I Ram - Crucial CT2KIT102472BD160B x2 so 32GB of ram PSU - 450W Silverstone SST-ST45SF Case - Sileverstone SST-DS380B HDD - 8 3TB WD Red drives
I've put together today but it will not boot, I have tried it with the freenas image on both a CD and USB stick. Everything powers up but all I get is two flashing lights on the motherboard. I don't get anything out through the VGA port and the keyboard that is plugged in doesn't power up either.
You should have bought the genuine case; that's probably what's causing boot issues.
Seriously though, if it isn't POSTing, then probably not much to do with your boot media. Have you tried getting into the BIOS? Tried removing one stick of RAM at a time? (drives all disconnected of course).
Right I've sort of the boot problem, that was solved by resetting the CMOS and letting it go through it's very slow boot up. It now runs fine until I connect the HDD holder after I plug that into the power supply it won't power up. Is a 450W gold rated power supply not enough to power 8 HDD and the asrock board?
