Free pc

Hi so a couple of weeks ago i did my first build and it went smooth so smooth that i want to do it way more!

Now a couple of days ago a friend came over and stared at my pc for a long time and he said "i want this so bad"

Now the problem is that he doesn't have a father and his mom doesn't earn a lot of money they have 3 children and don't have a car. Now he has been my friend for 8 years but he never wanted me giving him something but now he's turning 16 and most likely get 20 bucks from his mom . So this is where i want to come in and build him a gaming rig. Now i am not rich and my gaming system made me nearly broke so building a brand new system would be impossible but i would be able to spend aprox 100 dollars. So i thought that i might find some old computers at containerparks or recycling points for electronics but could this work and make a gaming rig of a bunch of old/broke pieces because nobody is going to throw away a 650ti . Or should i just give him a 100 dollars?

I'll throw in a pentium dual core. It's http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116063.

Gonna have to find a 775 mobo for it if you want it.

I can send you a core 2 quad and a motherboard, as well as some ddr2 ram.

All I have left are fans :|

I would go the route of getting computers from a reclcying plant. I've gotten several computers that only needed minor parts, like OS, RAM, or HDD, which were otherwise perfectly functional, and some even included monitors, for like $20-$50. I bought like 4 or 5 systems, refurbed them, and gave them away. You can probably find like an old 5670, which is fairly decent, should be inexpensive, and doesn't need a lot of power (odds are those recycled systems won't have the greatest PSU).

I would check out craigslist as well, you can sometimes find people selling decent PCs for a song.

Why can't he work for the money? I built mine after doing a few months of work last year when I was 15.

Your friend should do the following

Step one: Apply for a job at Subway/McDonalds

Step two: Work at said job for a few months

Step Three: Buy all the parts he wants

Step four: Build a godly gaming rig

Working for things is something every normal person has to do. Best get used to it now. I had a job from the time I was 14. Not to mention, the end result is extremely gratifying, because you earned it.

Except not every teenager has time for a job, and looking for someone that will pay you to do anything is like looking for a needle in a haystack these days, especially if you are young.

That's a very defeatist attitude. People will pay you to do your job if you're determined to do it. It's not easy, but doing what's easy won't get you anywhere.

Also, every teenager "doesn't have time" to do anything. You have to make time. Sacrifice is part of it. But a reward without sacrifice is no reward at all.

I know nothing of this person. I can only assume that they live the typical 16 year old life. With a 7-3 school day, you can still fit in a 3 hour shift every couple of days and complete your homework. I did it throughout highschool and college.

I admire your optimism.
