DVDfab ( full 30days free trial) just remove it and download it again when it runs out allways works.

If you don't want to go through the trouble of having to renew DVDfab every month, you can also try VLC. It has a ripping feature for CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray.
DVDShrink is great. Used it for years although they have now stopped developing it.
Now there are a bunch of fake sites pretending to be the official site and they have fake downloads for it but they are malicious so I have uploaded a version I had before they closed their site down if you would like to try it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_Shrink

What I normally do is use DVDShrink to rip the DVD with no compression (although the option is available) then use Handbrake (which is awesome) to encode them to x264. http://handbrake.fr/
My father asked me to rip his collection of over 700 DVDs and Blu-Rays. In my opinion, MakeMKV is the best way to rip a large collection of movies.

To make ripping faster, I also made a simple front end for MakeMKV. The tool is designed to streamline the ripping process.
