Forum Meta Discussion 2019 2nd Edition

How about “just because some people can handle the responsibility doesn’t mean everyone can, and we don’t want to create a situation that is bound to have negative repercussions just so a few exceptions can share memes and watch other people explode.”

You’re asking for trust when you can’t even follow the rules now. It’s not compelling, imo.

That is essentially options 1 and 2 combined.

“We ask that the forum police what is shown, as we are incapable of ignoring things we dislike. We demand that others be responsible for our emotional state”.

We ask that people follow the rules they agree to by using the forum.

You obviously dislike the rules and ignore them. What happens when everyone does that?

changes the rules so people are not breaking them

And we’re back to square one.

The rules were always the rules, they were relaxed in The Lounge, then some people complained, the rules were suddenly enforced within The Lounge, and this made people angry because that was not how it had been.

I am asking to go back to that, since the number of people complaining was reportedly lower than the number of people who wanted it changed back.

And honestly? I wouldn’t care in the slightest if people started posting eastern european pro-communism trans porn (despite my hatred of communism). But I’m an unrealistic person and I despise censorship of any kind. Others would obviously have a very reasonable objection to such content being on display.

I’m not saying “down with the rules” I’m saying “go back to the way it was, that way was more enjoyable for the majority of the users who are affected by the change”.

We ask you to be considerate of others on the forum.

  1. No Religious or Political Content

Religious and political discussions frequently become divisive arguments and are outside the scope of this forum. Discussion of tech policy or tech law is acceptable.

Welcome New Users! Read for Rules, Help, Bugs and where we put the Game Servers

It’s rule number two.

Go back to the way it was

What you’re saying is you want people to stop complaining about political content in the lounge then. “Don’t complain about stuff that bothers you, just ignore it.”

And here you are complaining about people having a problem with political discussion. What I’m trying to say is, maybe your complaint isn’t as valid as the complaints from people who don’t want to be driven out by the political discussion. The rule didn’t burst into existence at the start of the universe, it was intentionally created, put high on the list, and justified with an explanation.

I agree with the rule, it’s a feature not a bug. I don’t want to be forced to go somewhere else to avoid political debates in the lounge, and I don’t see why it’s such a big deal to you. You’re making a big fuss as a point of principle, but it doesn’t actually matter in any practical sense. There is a channel dedicated to it on discord if you want to discuss politics.

Actually that gives me an interesting idea. Maybe a dedicated politics thread on the forum? That way it can actually be ignored by people who don’t want anything to do with it. I’d support that experiment.

They aren’t being driven out, they are driving us out, not of the forum but of the one thread in which we were allowed to do what we enjoyed.

Again, asking you to ignore something doesn’t mean you aren’t able to post in that thread.

You can have multiple conversations in the same thread at once, I’m currently holding at least 3 or 4 in The Lounge, right now, one of them was somewhat political, the other was saying that something needed to be added to a political meme for accuracy sake.

This is where your reasoning is flawed. You aren’t being asked to leave.

Except for the part where you literally said “There is a channel dedicated to it on discord if you want to discuss politics.”

That’s telling someone to leave, essentially. “If I want to engage in a behavior that was previously allowed, I need to go elsewhere to do it”.

No one is being asked to leave The Lounge by those of us wanting to discuss pol in The Lounge, yet you claim the same thing. Users being “driven out by pol” I believe was your exact wording.

I’m saying you can take your discussion elsewhere. If politics is the only thing you’re here to discuss, then I guess that doesn’t leave any reason for you to stay, but I know you have other interests.

Things don’t have to be so extreme. You can use the forum and discord, you can have more than one group of friends, you can be sometimes ok with politics and sometimes upset by it. Relax a little, put down your fight with the world for a while, see where it takes you when you don’t resist change.

I resist change when it makes my experience worse.

That’s what you and those arguing about this seem to not get. You have made our experiences, worse. Less enjoyable.

For little to no gain for the majority of the users in that thread.

So you want all activity to stop in the Lounge and go elsewhere the second someone mentiones pol?

Do you think that would happen? Maybe there are people who would be more active in the lounge without politics on the menu

Also, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve actually seen people on the discord.

It would mean you have to do more than read for 10 minutes to get into the lounge. It’ll make people think harder before anoning.

I think it’s something that merits thought, but I know some people don’t like it because all they do is show up for lounge, so that would be an issue.

Thats a bit misconstrued

I don’t follow your reasoning. Try writing it down
