Folk-metal

I don't listen to much metal but I do like folk music and the mixture of the two is insanely awesome. The problem is that I have a hard time finding good bands in this genre, can you people recommend me some good folk-metal bands.

If you don't know any bands I recommend a band from Helsinki Finland named Finntroll they are the best folk-metal band I have yet to find.

And Eluveitie from Switzerland:

It's all about Eluveitie. Best folk metal I've ever heard.

There are so many different types of folk metal, considering there are so many places in the world with their own traditional, or "folk", music.  What a fun mix of genres

Lately I'm a lot into eastern european folk bands such as Arkona and similar stuff. I'd also recommend Heidevolk, Folkstone, Cruachan, Tyr, Wolfchant, Falkenbach, Manegarm. Ok, maybe "folk metal" is not completely exact for some of these bands, but whatever.

In fact I must admit that to me folk metal is more like "fun music", the kind of stuff that makes you dance, jump, drink and destroys your feet during live shows. To summon a deeper sense of tradition and cultural identity, though it may seem contradictory, I prefer black metal, with some folk elements, but on a solid, cold and eerie black metal structure. Maybe it's because it sounds more atmospheric and "atemporal" (don't know if I'm making myself clear here), but that's the kind of music that really takes me through other ages and makes me feel like a part of some wider and deeper stream.

*wooosh*
