FM1 Upgrade or AM3 replacement?

So I am upgrading my PC and I'm trying to get a general opinion on where to go. I have a ASUS FM1 motherboard (F1A55) and I plan on upgrading the CPU but I'm not sure if I should get a better FM1 CPU or scrap the F1A55 entirely and get a AM3+ mobo and CPU.

I would be upgrading to an Athlon ii x4 651K (That's the FM1 option)

OR

I would be getting a Phenom ii x4 965k (AM3) and a suitable motherboard. I would plan on upgrading to a better CPU at a later date as AM3+ isn't as dead as Fm1 :P

I also think I'd be getting a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO with an blue (preferably LED aswell) fan.

Any help as to what I should do with the CPU is appreciated. Also, I'd appreciate if there were no "Why not get an intel CPU?" or stuff like that.

the phenom ould obviously be the better choice. but is a more expensive solution...If you looking to upgrade the cpu i would go with the AM3+ option IMO.

Thanks :) It appears that is the recommendation I'm getting from everywhere else so I guess that's what I'm going to do :D

AM3 its 3 times better than a FM1 Athlon

Yup, I'm working on getting a build that is suited towards AM3+ now :D

grab a decent AM3 + 970 board with a phenom II X4 or X6 or an FX6300
