Flash new bios to laptop..... No more USB boot?

So, MSI GS63VR. I just got a 500 GB NVMe drive to run windows and linux on. As a precaution, people online reported that a bios update fixes some problems on the machine. Theres a 2018 patch, says large list of fixes, add ram speed stuff, neat.

I can’t get into a USB boot disk. Like at all. I select boot menu, nothin, uefi back to legacy, nothin, defaults, nothin.

I don’t remember if it DID work… Part of me wonders if I need to redo the cables in teh machine from when I put the new drive in, but everything works I am pretty sure…
Could a bios update fuck up USB boot?

Checking if it shows any boot options would be my first step
and then if it does, investigate if for example worse usb stick would work
and if that does, then check if its same file format
and if that does, then use like usb hub to downgrade usb port in case its that 3.1 for example
