Fitness Challenge [BREAK A LEG}

As a part of the Break a Leg Challenge I am putting together this fitness/health orientated thread. The idea being anyone interested can join in and participate.

1) Pick a goal to achieve over the next 4-6 weeks.

These could include but not limited to:
* Lose X kg/lb;
* Do activity X, X times per week;
* Walk X Kilometres/Miles per day/week;
* Do X amount of pullups/situps etc in a row; OR
* Anything else you can think of that is fitness or health related.

2) Formulate and briefly outline how you plan to accomplish your goal(s).
3) Report back by the end of October with your results. More frequent updates are option but highly encouraged.

The goal of this "sub-challenge" is to achieve something positive for yourself while hopefully encouraging others to get involved!

I am also happy to provide links to relevant information for (running, weight-loss etc) should anyone be interested.

Get on it everyone!

1) My goal is to pass my fitness test in 2 weeks time with particular emphasis on passing the Illinois Agility Test component.

2) I plan on achieving my goal by working out 6 days a week.

  • Mon, Wed, Fri are my sprint training days where my workouts focus on speed work;
  • Tues, Thurs, Sat are my agility training days where I focus on improving my legwork and reducing my overall time completing the Illinois Agility Test;
  • I also aim to complete a 30 minute bodyweight workout to build leg strengh; and
  • Walk 10,000 steps per day minimum.

3) Will report back the 28th with results.

I did a personal challenge like this in prior TS Challenges or whatever and where I am at right now is getting past the fear of going to a workout club. Until there is such a time I can do that I don't think there will be much progress in me losing more stomach fat. I have tried to do what I need to do at home as I know you don't need exercise equipment to work on getting rid of stomach fat but I can't do it. I prefer equipment. I did speak to my son about running at a local jog/run track that used to be for the old high school and well even if he won't run it with me I could try to run it on my own. I have thought of doing this before but like with many things I am tired of doing them alone but then have the anxiety that keeps me from finding people to do these things with. LOL! Anyway best of luck to you with your challenge @Rasziel. Working out even if it is just 3 times per week for some and doing simple exercises definitely helps one lose weight and inches around the waist.

This past weekend I did a 20 km (~12.5 miles) speed walk under 3 hours both on Saturday and Sunday with 30kg (66 pounds) strapped to my back along with some fitness tests, could test in the end of October if I can get under 2 hours 30 minutes... it's gonna require a lot more running, or jogging all the way... rip feet.

To prep for it I'll be jogging ~10 km with 10kg extra weights twice a week plus some longer trekking trips on weekends when I have the time, let's see if that will make any difference.

Yeah I understand your hesitation as I was in the same position for a long time. However if weight-loss or reducing your bodyfat is your primary goal don't forget it's ~90% diet and ~10% exercise. You can always set and stick to a certain diet and lose enough weight (if you need to of course) to feel comfortable enough to join an club. I also fully support just doing something (different) no matter how small as it can give you the motivation and confidence to make great changes sooner.

Awesome! Yeah remember to take care of you feet and not over train. I found that tabata is excellent at improving your cardiovascular fitness in a short period of time while reducing the impact from running too much. I transitioned from doing 30-50 km a week running to doing tabata daily and with longer endurance activities 1-2 a week you suggest.

That's quite a bit of weight, kudos.

Are you planning on something like this;

Well during the past weekend we infact did the "Royal Marine Advanced Combat Fitness Test" with buds to test how the Brits roll, something new to try is always fun ;)
