Fist time buying PSU

I am moving from a x51 Alienware. If you look it up you may understand why it can be difficult to upgrade inside it. Black Friday ended in me ordering a coolermaster Mastercase 5 pro. In theory moving the motherboard from the Alienware should be easy. GPU is a gt 545 not power hungry one, and the PSU i have had is 240 external. moving case is a good time to also get a PSU that lives on the inside. All me knowledge and experience about PSU's are roomers as i never have build a computer fully. When limiting the market to only stores i trust in buying from, etc i end with this list it is a norwegian webpages the picture in the end here is the result of that.

Another thing, the motherboard got a 4 pin cpu power input, read you can use adapters etc to make it work but well thread is here.

So main question is. Should i buy under 800W (mostly choosing 800+ so i don't have to worry when upgrading)
What brands are best to chose EVGA, Corsair, or Cooler Master.

EDIT question about 4 pin cpu power

I wouldn't worry about brand so much, as long as it's reputable. You do need to do research though, because even the big names make some bad ones. One of the big factors is ripple. I suggest checking out the review database on any of your initial choices.

Brand: Seasonic... If your choice is only between those brands and models, i'll just get Cooler Master V850... It's made by seasonic, so i trust it the most...
Otherwise, unless you make monstrous overclock with SLI/CFX, then 650W will probably be fine for any possible combo of CPU/GPU...

Stay away from walmart PSU's like"CoolMax" and crap like that. Stay away from Corsair CX and BX, probably builder too, PSU's. They can catch on fire.

Antec has been a favorite for me, but EVGA might be the best all around.

@hk_47 Thank you for the link, will be looking at it :)

@psycho_666 i know anythign above 300 is overkill for the cpu/gpu i will start with but me thinking is going with a overkill so i always have a big buffer, or that is me mindset on it

@FaunCB i think i am safe against Walmart as they don't have any place i can buy at in me country. And can you give a source to the catch on fire O_o

Lol it's just a saying we use here for companies that probably shouldn't exist.

Gonna be a bit biased here and go EVGA only because I have a GS 650w in my system and this thing is a damn tank.

I run SLI on a 750w.

now for what you should buy, EVGA G2 series, corsair AX(i) series. Don't bother with anything else (are other good brands but these are popular and easy to find)

Look up your PSU of choice on johnny guru before buying, the guy knows his stuff.

I know the corsair RM---i is a very good sucserror to the non-i

Seeing people going for EVGA and that i was aiming for a overkill far higher then i ever going to need
i did increase the amount and looked at EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W i still aim for a overkill
@redneckgamer185 as long the bias are from a experience it fills what i was looking for ^_^
@The_Space_Bear What cards do you run in SLI?
@NJM1112 i was unable to find it on the webpage, so do you know if it is any other usefully places to look PSU's up?

Do you have any upgrade plans in the future?
If so? what upgrade plans do you have?

Basicly if you never plan to go with a dual gpu setup, something like a 650W psu should be more then enough for future upgrades.
EVGA Supernova 650W G2 or GS are decent units.
Unless you have some realy extreme upgrade plan´s in mind ofc.

@MisteryAngel the only upgrade plans i have in close future is GPU (motherboard i have only got 1 pci so dual is as far i know impossible for me right now. Other then GPU i have plans for upgrading the motherboard but that is going to wait to i either need, really want to upgrade it.

But some of what i have understood about GPU's is that they normally live longer then most of a system. So i want to aim for more then i need. before upgrading GPU i only need 240 in the current system

well with a decent 650W psu you can power something like a,
Skylake i7-6700K and a R9-390X or GTX980Ti for example without any issues.
Just to give you an image.
So you realy dont need anything extreme.

unless you realy have plan's for something like X99 + 5960X and dual 980Ti´s, or what not.

looked at PSU's now between 500 and 900W
between the 650 and 750 it is 8 dollar cost
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W (1 149 nok =136 usd)
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W (1 090 nok =128 usd)

would it be any other cons then the extra 8 dollars in this case?

(looking fast over the ones from cooler master and corsair they cost more for the same amount of W)(link here is norwegian again prices here is not necessary the shop i would buy from just the cheapest one)

Well i think that even 650W would be kinda overkill in your case.
Like i said, if you realy have plan's to do a platform upgrade in the near future to a Skylake i5 / i7 + highend gpu like GTX980 (Ti), R9-390 (X), R9-Fury (X).
Then i would recommend something like a 650W.
That would be more then enough for a setup like that.

If the 750W is cheaper then the 650W ofc, then it would never hurt.
But its way overkill for you right now.
It just depends on your future plan´s.

trying to summary now
650 is a good amount of overkill for me situation right now.
750 is only a con on price and more overkill then i am going to need

or did i not understand something? i just try to be sure now

Basicly yes.
650W is basicly still overkill for you situation right now.
But if you ever plan to do a platform upgrade, with a more highend single gpu.
Then 650W should be nicely future proof.

Thank you for the help. going to wait to order it (the specific shop i am going to buy from don't get them in before 23 December)
But another part that i did throw in as a edit before someone had replied is all the psu i have seen so far have had 8pin power for cpu. the current motherboard i got a 4 pin for cpu does it exist adapters or any safe way to make a 8 pin to be a 4 pin cpu?

yes there adapters for it if needed.

Okay, thank you again :)

EDIT: looking on evga.com i find that the cables splits from 8 to 4 pins anyways... conclusion me being stupid not looking good enough
