First time PC builder. Parts list

Hello guys,

It's my first time building a PC. I've done some research and came up with a parts list that I feel would satisfy my needs.
I was wondering if anyone would like to check the parts that I am planning to go with and give me further advice?

Parts List:

CPU: Intel i7-6800K
GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 1070 Strix
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X99
Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
Storage: Mushkin Enhanced Reactor 1TB + Samsung 850 Evo 500GB
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
PSU: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold
Case: Corsair Obsidian 750D full tower case

I use my current PC (MSI GS60 Ghost Pro laptop (i7-4710 & GTX 870M)) to game (usually fps and racing games), model and test parts for small engineering projects (SolidWorks, Catia, Ansys).

Thanks a lot for your input :)

That sounds like a pretty nice build altogether, I'd recommend you put together a pcpp list to make it easier for price to be taken into consideration.

Will do... Thank you for the response :)

One thing I just remembered is an nh-d15 owner I'd suggest you keep in mind that it'll tie you down quite a bit when it comes to cases especially if later down the line you decide you want to downsize. There's an updated version of the nh-d15 that's about 5mm shorter that would be a bit more ideal in that situation. It's something that recently in hindsight has killed me!

Besides that the storage options you have seem a little odd but I'm assuming he clue is in the prices.

Agreed, great build overall.

Only thing I would consider changing is probably the wattage of the PSU. 850w is probably a bit overkill for a single card system. You could probably skim a few dollars off and go for a 650w 80+ Gold if you wanted to!

Yea. I just realized pc part picker says the systems needs approximately 400W to work. I knew I had to go over that number but didn't know by how much...Thank you, I'll probably go for a lower wattage PSU.

Here is the link for pcpp btw: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/XRxV7h

I'm pretty sure there's people on the forum who have 400w no rating PSUs in dual card and overclocked systems haha. I always add an extra hundred to what I think I need just for redundancy haha.

this is from the dealzon thing. same ssd but 80$ bucks cheaper.

Ah that's such a good deal but wish they shipped to Canada... thanks anyways :)

I see your logitech keyboard. Sure sure, no problem with that of course, just be aware that while Romer-G switches are perfectly fine, they are.. weird when compared to Cherry MX.

Basically, what I mean is that you should research the difference, IF you don't already have a preference.

That's a good point. I have a Cherry MX switch tester and I really like the brown and blue switches. The reason I put G810 is that I've used logitech peripherals for a couple years now and been very satisfied (G400s and G430).

I'm still unsure at the moment and I don't think I'll be making my decision on the keyboard until I try the G810 at a physical store.

Thanks for the heads up :)

Good call.

I had my eye on Corsair's keyboards so I went to the local Best Buy and they had a Logitech G910 (The one with those weird angular key caps) and it was awful. That's just my preference because i have big hands so I really felt the angular caps. Also, I'm sure that the display keyboard has been through Hell and back so.. that's another grain of salt to take.
I ended up with a Cherry MX Red, which is even less like the Romer G's than the other MX switches

Like I said, get a good feel for each type because it's veeeeery subjective.
