Hello!
Just a little heads up that I am new here and new to PCs. So please be cool with my ignorance and please feel free to point me in the right direction.
Anywhoo, so I've just order all the bits for my first PC. I feel confidant enough putting them together. However, I'm a tad confused as to what to do after I've installed my OS to keep everything safe. I'm coming over from using Apple products so I have no idea of where to start in the way of antivirus and other protective measures.
What are some things I should be concerned with? How do I go about taking care of those concerns?
Thanks!

That's what we're here for man... download CCleaner and Malwarebytes... you're good to go from there... Malwarebytes has a free version that will manually scan and set up timed scans, but the free version won't provide active protection... they have a grandfathered $24.95 fee for life but have since switched to $24.95 a year... ANNNND it's still worth it...
if you go to any questionable sites it'll give a smack on the wrist and let you know you're about to do something stupid... if you actually download and open malware it will quarantine it before you let it install... so while active protection is nice, you can get by with the free version so long as you're not regularly doing stupid things...
My advice... if you activate the free version active protection trial and Malwarebytes slaps you on the wrist more than once a week... buy the full version :)
Run CCleaner once a week... it'll get rid of all the BS files that accumulate as you browse the internet and do daily tasks... it also lets you manage your startup programs in case you get infected and don't know what processes to close in ctrl+alt+delete
Well if you have everything installed, OS drivers and what not. Then i would recommend installing a decent virus scanner, spyware scanner, and malware scanner.
Decent Free virusscanners:
- Avira Antivir 2015
- Avast Free antivirus
- AVG
- Spybot search and destroy, is a free spyware scanner..
- Malwarebytes anti malware, is a free anti malware, and spyware scanner.
Anyway welcome to the community.

out of curiosity... has your virus or spyware scanners ever found something Malwarebytes missed?
I just use Trend Micro. Been using them since my first pc build back in 2002~2003.
yes the spyware scanner did, it found a few tracking cookies once.
Viruscanners are a bit better wenn you download infected files, or trojan / keyloggers related, rootkits and what not, if you use realtime protection offcourse.
Still Malwarebytes is a very strong application on its own. I personaly have three scanners spybot, malware bytes, and avira antivir. And it keeps my system clean for 1.5 years allready.
With my FX8350 i have no single issue runnings full systems scans with those 3 scanners at the same time. i do this arround 2 or 3 times a week, it cost me arround 20 minutes in total time.
