Hi all, been a regular reader of the Tek Syndicate forums for a while but now I need some sage advice. I want to put together a PC that's primarily for gaming and media, but I also hate waiting for things to load, so one that operates very smoothly (if that makes sense?) I'd also like to do a bit of overclocking, but nothing major as I've never overclocked anything before.
I generally play all sorts of games on consoles, but I'd like this pc to be able to handle fast paced FPS games well.
This is what I'm looking at so far: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/
I'm pretty sure I want to go for the NZXT phantom 410 case, an AMD cpu and I don't think I've ever read anything bad about the 990fx sabertooth mobo. However, the rest of the parts I'm really not sure on, especially the ram and the psu.
I initially wanted to get a GTX780 gpu, but now I've kinda decided against that after watching Logans vid on the Asus GTX760. The plan is to have a solid build that is easily upgradeable in the future.
I was ideally looking to spend not that much over £1000 (I'm based in England), but I think my overall budget uncluding monitor and other accessories is no higher than £1500.
If you guys had any advice on a decent monitor too that would be great. I think I'm happy with a 1080p resolution, but as the title says, I'm a bit clueless.
Many thanks
Your link leads to our own personal builds. on the left side of the build page there is a perma link, post that.

Hopefully that link is the right one
Uhmm, the only change I would make is switching that GTX 760 to an HIS 7950 IceQ x2. If you overclock it is can beat an overclocked GTX 770.

- I've given you more RAM at about the same price. 8GB RAM is the recommended amount for gaming.
- Ditched the optical drive. You don't need one anymore; install Windows off a USB drive (you do have to have a working optical drive for this, or a computer with an optical drive)
- Switched out the HyperX 3K. The one you chose was a upgrade kit bundle. No need for that as you'll be installing it into a case, not a laptop, and you aren't 'upgrading' anything.
- Better PSU. XFX power supplies are made by Seasonic, so they're real nice. 650W should be perfect for this system, and give you some headroom to overclock, especially with that nice NH-D14.
**Side note: make sure the NH-D14 fits in the case***
- Monitor: Dell U2412M. Great monitor according to multiple reviews, nice IPS display. Only donwside for gaming is the 8ms response time, but you can't really tell the difference anyway. I'll be using this in my personal rig when I eventually buy it.
- Mouse & Keyboard: I have no idea why UK PCPartPicker doesn't have these, but pick up the Corsair K70 and Razer Deathadder 2013. You can also pick up other mouse/keyboard combos if you don't like those. I own the Deathadder 2013 and I really like it. I also own the K90 and I love it as well, however the K95/K70 do better jobs. I had only wished I'd known the K95 was coming out when I bought my K90 lol (bought it in March). Add about $170-200 for a mouse and keyboard. The total is about 1000 pounds for parts and about 370 pounds for peripherals.
Thanks guys, really appreciate it.
I was wondering if there was any point looking at water cooling. I initially thought about the h100i, but I don't know if it's overkill or not for what I intend to do, and I've only heard good things about that Noctua cooler.
Also, if I were to push the boat out and spend the full £1500, what would you recommend? I forgot to mention previously I was hoping to get a modular, or semi modular psu. Also does the mhz on the ram matter that much?
@Manimal: I've just been looking at the HIS 7950 IceQ x2 and I can get the 7970 version for £20 more.

Is this a no brainer, or is the 7950 you mentioned specifically better?
If you can get a 7970 then by all means, buy it!
Thanks for the advice guys
I missed out on the 7970 though, it went back up in price :(
