First possible Pc..HELP

Hey guys!

I have been wanting to get into pc gaming for a while, since my old laptop cannot run simple games, and a console option wouldn't fit me anymore. My first thought went for a laptop with a good GTX 870, for occasional gaming and work, study etc... But I'm thinking about a pc build for the house! I've done some research and I found these listed below :

CPU: intel core i5 4590 3.3 ghz

Motherboard: Asus z67-A

GPU: Asus GTX 750 Ti GDDR5 2gb

RAM: Kingston Hyper X Fury 8gb dual channel

Power Supply: CS series 450 Watt modular, not sure about this help?

HDD: 1TB any brand

Case: Corsair Carbide SPEC -01

This will amount on Amazon at 715.97 $US

Please I need help, it is not urgent but maybe in 2-3 months I would like to build a pc... this is a good budget for me, any lower would be ok, but also up to 750-800$ it would still be ok!

I hope in some help.

Your GPU is pretty weak. You want strong GPU for gaming and probably a cheaper i5 if you don't OC.

this is pretty good without OC, tell me what you think:

It seems like your CPU is a lot more powerful than the GPU.The CPU isn't utilized as much for gaming so perhaps investing in a lower spec (or equivalent AMD) CPU and a higher spec GPU would be worth your money. I've got no idea when it comes to productivity but for gaming I'd go for something like:

(for the CPU)

AMD FX-6300 for 109USD

or

AMD FX-8320 for 149USD

with a

(for the GPU)

Gigabyte GTX 760 for 209USD

or

PowerColor R9 285 for 220USD

or

Sapphire Dual-X R9 280 for 200USD

You'll obviously need an AM3+ motherboard to go with the AMD FX CPUs, but they're not hard to find at a decent price for the features you want.

If you have the money, it'd be worth getting an SSD as a boot drive too. The Kingston SSDNow 120GB has had no issues and my system and provides good performance for the money.

The rest of the system looks fine except the GPU which might be worth bumping up in wattage a little for future expansion.

EVGA 500 B

or

Corsair CX600

Good luck with the build.

Ihcuo thank you for answering me! So what you are saying is that it's a bit overkill with the CPU? I don't play many games like assassin's creed or crysis or Battlefield, I'm more of those strategy games, however if I want to play COD, do you think my GPU won't really do the 1080 p experience? Would a 760 do a med setting experience with good frames? The pc would also be used for working, I chose that CPU because it's a bit newer and will be pretty good in the near future, for the little work we do... Otherwise would a 760 do the job? The thing is that I don't really want to go with AMD anything, I know it's cheaper and sometimes performs better than Intel.

Anyhow thank you so much for the answer and I'll post or ask about a laptop in the same price range that I could aLos use for occasional gaming. Thank you again!

from a technicality standpoint... see you in 2-3 months as prices change daily... but yes that's about what you're looking for with the build...

I'm not a huge fan of AMD CPUs at this point... are they're 3+ years outdated... but the AMD GPUs are good buys

Hi crinjworthy!

Thank you for the comment and options and your thoughts.

The thing is that, my father and I will probably do more of office and studying work on there than me gaming, I'm not a big gamer and I mostly play strategy games and I would be interested in playing "War Thunder".

I know AMD is very good but for some reason I'd rather have and Intel and Nvidia.

For the money that would be spent on this build, would it be better to buy a laptop that has a decent graphics card like a 870 or equal radeon? I've seen some laptops with i7 cost about that price, the thing with the laptop is that I would have the portability for college, not much gaming involved and of course not the same perfomances as a desktop PC.

I still have a long time before deciding, maybe even do a month to month build, so buy a couple of components per month, so I could allocate more budget in a graphics card and power supply.

The motherboard, I could find a 60-70$ one, however my father was thinking in not cheaping out on the motherboard, what's the difference between a 60-70$ and a 120-140$ one? I won't be putting 2 graphics cards in the system... Anyway I will do some more research on the laptops and a AMD build like you have mentioned!

Thank you very much! I don't know much about PCs so I am very influenced by these youtube videos. Thank you again

note that you're getting half the performance for twice the price with a laptop... good motherboards are the core of the system... a lot of people that don't know any better cheap out on motherboards... you're losing features, quality, and throughput by doing this...

Depending on what you do... AMD offers some solutions that are incredible for the price... with the current GPU market... if you aren't buying a GTX 970, you're doing yourself an injustice not considering AMD for a GPU... for the same price as a 750ti, the R9 270 has much better performance... for the same price as a 760, the 280x has much better performance...

As far as CPU goes, from what you're describing you'll be doing on it, you really won't need a lot of processing power... just food for thought

Hey DrunkenPanda!

Yes I know prices fluctuate daily, hopefully they will be low when I make my decision!

I have and AMD currently in my laptop, yes it's an old 4 years laptop but my father's Intel 4 years old laptop outperforms it by far, even simply things such as going on internet explorer (I use Firefox) but his laptop boots faster and does about anything faster.

I think I'm becoming a bit of a Nvidia and Intel fan boy :( I guess it's not good, I think I should have more flexibility to other products of course.

This would be a build that will not be changed for a long time! Or maybe upgrades in the GPU, I'm not sure.

Occasional gaming is what will be in my life for about 6 years (university), should I rather invest in a pretty powerful laptop with maybe i7 and a GTX 870? Or higher? I saw the Asus ROG G551 I believe it is called, however the price is a problem, yes you do pay for the portability -I guess- but is it worth it? Or would a ultrabook be equal?

thank you for your comment

What you are saying about half the performance, double the price, you are right, it's true.

These pc parts I've listed is a thought, what I'm scared of is, going to study in another state and having a 800$ pc sitting at home basically doing nothing and I am stuck with my 6 years old laptop, which has panic attacks when you open more than one tab at the time.

However I will probably be deciding in a month or two so I still have time to think about it.

Thank you for the informations!
