On CPU, intel is in the lead... but they are a little more expensive. It really just depends on your budget.
The 4670k (and newer 4690k) outperforms the AMD FX 8350 at both multithreaded tasks and single core performance... UNLESS it is a 8 thread ~100% utilization task.. then the 8350 wins, but that doesn't happen in gaming.. just rendering and transcoding tasks.
The builds I put together for the same cost and cheaper will perform better than what you had... I am not going to say the 8350 is a bad processor, but I really think it comes down to making the most of your budget.
Here is an intel build and an AMD build to fit a $1200 budget.
AMD - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xTWwkL
Good build, especially if you like AMD, open CL, and are excited about mantel
Intel (non overclocked) - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6cC9t6
more powerful in both CPU and graphics than the AMD build. Money saved on the cooler and overclocking motherboard is put into better graphics. Intel chips utilize ram better, especially for multi-tasking or if you wanted to stream your gaming online.
Intel (Overclocked) - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/X23vqs - I went over by $5
This has the strongest CPU for gaming. It has the same graphics performance as the AMD.
** I chose the case because it is a great deal right now unless you don't like LED fans... then choose something else.
**The powersupply could have been cheaper, but I chose the cheapest single rail, gold certified model I trusted

Final summary - Overall I would go for the non-overclocked option of the three for sheer performance. If you really want to dabble in overclocking, then the i5-4690 offers the best performance there as well.
**Important notes about cost reduction -
- You can reduce the ram on teh AMD build to save about $75 bucks, but you may get reduced performance when multitasking and streaming.
- You can put the same graphics card from the AMD and I5 build into the xeon 1230v3 build to reduce the cost by $80 and get the best "middle of the road" option with increased CPU performance and lower price.
