I am looking at building my first PC (will use for gaming). I intend to run it through my 50" TV and hook it up to my surround sound system. This is what I am looking at. Any feedback/advice/suggestions would be appreciated.
i5-3570k
Asus 660 Ti 2gb
Asus P8Z77-V
Thermaltake Black Widow 850 watt PSU
G. Skill Sniper 16gb RAM (two 8gb sticks)
Seagate Baracuda 1tb 7200/rpm
Cougar Evolution Black SECC ATX Full Tower
And of course Windows 7 (64 bit home), wireless mouse/keyboard, DVD burner, etc.
Looks good, your PSU is too much however. You really don't need 850W unless you're gonna get another GPU in the future. Also if your only gaming then you don't need 16GB's of RAM really.
unless youre planning to get a second gpu in future, then get a 500w psu. something like the corsair cx 520 will do. also, instead of getting 16 gb of ram, get 8. and again, unless youre planning to upgrade in the future, get 4 sticks of 2gb or if you're really intent on getting 16gb, then get 4 sticks of 4gb (this should improve performance as it has 4 modules to write data to rather than 2). also, consider getting an ssd. something cheap will do, just like a 60gb 500 read/write for the os will do, then you can use the hdd for all your games. or you could do what i have and get a 256gb ssd for os and games, and a 500gb for storage. if either of those 2 dont take your fancy, then what about a 128gb for os and your most layed games, and a 750gb hdd for other games and storage. finally, dont use a wireless keyboard and mouse, they are bad for gaming as they give slower response times. instead, get some cheap k&m like a cyborg rat 3 and a microsoft sidewinder x4 or something like that.
I do plan on adding a second GPU later, as well as an SSD. Understood on the RAM, I'll drop to 8gb and save a few bucks. Perhaps with the savings I'll spring for an SSD right off the bat. I am going for something pretty good to start, with room to upgrade easily in the future.
If it's just for gaming grab an FX-8350 and any compatable motherboard that is priced similarly to your current one. Probably end up saving a few bucks which you could then put towards other parts.
