First PC Build

I'm planning on buying the parts for my new custom built pc in the next month or two. I've got a computer build i've put together with pcpart picker. I was just wondering if anyone could over the computer build and check if there's cheaper alternatives and better options I could go with. My budget is from $700 - $800. Thanks for the help if anyone can. Much appreciated! :)

Get this hard drive instead :)

Costs lest and it has more storage

Wouldn't 500GB be enough?

Meh... 500GB usually fills pretty fast, at least in my experience. if you can get more storage I would go with that

If you have an external hard drive you'll be ok if you just put your media on there and leave games and apps on the main hard drive.

I wouldn't fill up 500GB fast...Well I'll have it to start off with then I will upgrade later. But besides that is everything else good?

Graphics card is no good.

Get the Asus 7870 or the ICEQ 7870. Better performance for around the same price or cheaper depending on prices at the moment.

Processor get the 3570k. You'll want intel HD 4000 integrated graphics with the actual usefullnes of Virtue Universal MVP which after the last driver package has started working by upping your game perfomance 8-12% by using both your integrated and dedicated graphics at the same time. Cheers.

Okay I'll have a look at the asus one and do the same with the 3570k. Yeah but that sounds like a good option. :)

Are you going to be doing any over clocks, and yes or no, do you have a CPU cooler already? I really would get something besides the stock cooler in my honest opinion. And secondly do you already have the OS for it, cause I figure that also goes into the cost of building a computer.

And in my personal rig as of right now, you will be surprised how fast 500GBs fills up. Plus its always less then what they say it has.

Nah I don't have a cpu cooler now. But I do have the OS which saves me $100. Yeah I probably will be doing over clocks.

This is a great MOBO. If it's within your price range go for it. Virtu MVP is included in the features. 3570k for sure if you go with a board with Virtu MVP. 2500K if you stick with your original board.

Definitely google Virtu MVP. Lots of people talk shit about it but OCT. 29 Asus released new bios for that board and it includes some new compatibilities for Virtue. Combine that with the latest Virtu software and it's worth it getting the Ivy Bridge Intel HD4000 graphics integrated into the 3570k.

Just to add a footnote here, for your Power Supply please only go Seasonic NZXT or Corshair. In that order from first to last as being the most reliable. 80 plus obviously. Never skimp on PSU. Consider some more expensive PSUs that will give you tons of overhead for future upgrades. When you go 1155 socket you're going to have the potential to up grade 1 or 2 years from now piece by piece and keep your mobo going. So it's a good idea to get a decent mobo with SLI or Crossfire support for when those technologies really come into their own. Plus 650W or higher PSU is a good idea.

Sorry if I'm encouraging you to spend more money, but for and extra $150-$200 you get SO MUCH MORE.

seasonic, xfx, corsair... don't know about nzxt....

Well I'm not planning to upgrade for another 1 or 2 years and yeah I will just upgrade piece by piece by sustain the mobo for as long a possible. I think it would be a good idea to get a better power supply because it will supply enough power and will be more reliable for future upgrades. Okay, but what about the cpu and gpu?

Correct. Seasonic, xfx, Corsair. Ignore NZXT, although they are decent but I would go with them as a last option. I recently purchased a Seasonic 520W. Spectacular PSU. Quiet, quality parts.

3570k if you can afford it with an Asus Direct CU II 7870 2gb. Get a Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler and make sure you have decent case fans (they are like $5-$20) for decent ones if your case has options for more. Get the right size. Typically 120mm and 140mm Fans are the most popular.

I say the 7870 because it's highly overclockable, and the Non-reference cooler is one of the best out there. Asus is known for keeping things cool, allbeit usually they are more concerned with keeping things quiet. I'm really pushing that card because it's pretty much at the exact price range of your 660 but will outperform it when overclocked. You can get an extra 300mhz out of it which puts the gpu clock up to around 1.3GHz

Logan actually reviewed and ICEQ 7870 which in my eyes if you manually overclock anyway, is inferior to the Asus due to the Direct CU II cooling solution.

Okay well my budget is around $800 so it doesn't matter if it about $40 over. why not the gtx 660? it's got cuda and physx which will take advantage with newer games that will be coming out. I'm defintely going with the 3570k, but I'm not to sure about the gpu. Personaly I'm a fan of nvidia and yeah haha
