First pc best gpu

I am in the market for a new pc and am looking for what is the best graphics card for a pc in the mid $1600 ~ $1800 range. I was originally going to get a gtx 970, but then  a while back I was pursueded into spending a little more and getting a 980. Then I was surfing the web and saw the whole gtx 970-80 false advertising about the memory and am now looking to what is better (with no problems) for next gen gaming and photo/video editing aswell as streaming. This brought me to here to you Guys (or girls) about your advice I would like to know specifics, like what manufacturer and model.

                                    Thanks in advance ~Laszlo

Well, the 980 is beast. I have a 970 and I'm a little disappointed in Nvidia. If I were you i'd wait till the amd dx12 gpus and come out and see then

I wouldn't recommend the 980. It is too expensive. Over $200 more for 5-10 FPS.... Not worth it.

Plus the 290X is just as fast at higher resolutions.

so I should go with a 290x thanks again ~laszlo

Well, i wouldn't say that...

Now if you have the PSU of about 1000 wats and a good enough CPU in order to support it, i would say, that 2x290 (non X) will kind of destroy 970, 980, 990, 290, 390 and kind of 490 whenever it comes out...

For example, in Newegg the cheapest 980 i could find is 550$, as two Sapphire Tri-X 290 is 280$. So for the price of 980 you get much much better performance in most AAA games, as indies usually don't need that much graphics power.

If you are scared of setting up crossfire, and i don't blame you, then 290X is a better choice. If you listen to me, there are 3 and only 3 models, you need to look at. Gigabyte Windforse, Sapphire Tri-X/VaporX and XFX DD. Basically those are the 3 quietest, coolest and best performing 290X on the market for the price. I have Toxic 270X, that have a smaller Tri-X/VaporX cooler on it, and trust me when i say, this thing is quiet. I have total of 7 fans in my system, and all i hear is the box cooler and the HDD...

what kind of display are u getting or have, r9 290 and gtx 980 are over kill for 1080p while the 960 and r9 285 ,280 look good for 1080.

I do have a 1080 monitor, but looking to get a 1440 or even 4k monitor in the  future, I just don't want to upgrade my graphics card when I purchase a new monitor. So you could just say I want to be prepared for 1440

you can get 2 r9 290s for almost 500$ if you look around and rebates but you need a beffy power supply or go for 1 gtx 980 the 970 is still good kinda.

i like the the Sapphire Tri-X othing but good reviews from people you just need good case cooling

I think I am going to go with a 980 because I am kind of scared of sli, since this is my first build. I still need help on what is the best model of 980. ~laszlo

Any really, even the reference stock cooler models works perfectly fine. Just look for a 3yr warranty and good pricing. At the end of the day one is bound to the luck of the draw in the silicon lottery as to what the card itself will perform like - oc wise. If you're building a system with a particular colour theme and your chosen case has a window perhaps look for a card that will match colour wise.

Thanks for all your help ~laszlo

go with a 295x2 because it is a beast and 660 ish prices is just 100 bucks more than a 980 and is way more powerful due to its 2 gpus on one card

dont be scared it is crossfire and it works better than sli  and amd is a better compney due to the community surrounding it it has a community

If you can wait I would suggest waiting for AMDs 300 series which should be coming out very soon, It's not known for certain but it's looking like a month or two. If you can't wait a 290x is a good choice.
