First Mechanical Keyboard

Looking for a mechanical keyboard to replace my hp membrane one that i "borrowed" from work. any suggestions? budget of around £60-£100 uk

This one I just brought for my work and its quite nice,
I don't know if you can buy it in UK but here is a link from where I bought it :

It cost about 700 sek that recalculate to £ should be around £60

There are some option too like red cherry etc. mine is with blue cherry keys

I recommend the Ducky Zero DK2108. No backlight, but has volume and calculator keys, as well as N-key rollover, and Windows button disabling.

I like Ducky's keyboards but the one you have recommended i can't find anywhere. thanks though

Are there any specific features you want?
Backlight? A specific color or RGB?
What size, Full, Ten-keyless or 60%?
Do you know what switch type you want?

RGB or a normal backlight would be nice but im not fussed.
Either full sized or ten-keyless

I'm also looking. Excited to see people's recommendations!

So far, I really like the WASD keyboards because I'm a customization freak, and they seem really solid and minimal. But also I saw the post someone made about how Roccat's gaming stuff works well on linux, and with the programmable macros that could be pretty awesome!

I have 2 different ones right now, and I recommend them both for different reasons.

1) Tesoro Durandel with MX Brown switches. I use this at work, and I'm a code monkey. It's great to type on, and it's not obnoxious. I just turn off the back light, and it does everything I want, and it only cost me $90 US. The build quality is fine, it's not a WASD or Das (the most popular keyboards at my office), It's mostly plastic, but still hefty and has genuine switches.

2) Razer (I know) Blackwidow Ultimate. This is right at the top of your budget (if I'm remembering the exchange rate correctly). It took 1-2 weeks for my switches to "break in". They had this weird resonance that made my fingertips tingle. I'm fine now, but it was really strange. The feel is notably lighter than the MX Browns on the Tesoro. That's great for me because when I bought it, WoW was my primary game, and it made spamming a lot less fatiguing on 4-5 hour raid nights.

Hope that helps.

Third topic I'm saying this in in the last half an hour but I absolutely love my WASD code.
It has clears (actually pretty hard to find), good backlight and feels almost indestructible.
I feel keyboards and screens are a bit alike in the sense that a good one can stay with you for multiple generations of computer builds.

I personally enjoy my Corsair K90 though am looking to get a second one likely 10 keyless with browns. I would suggest trying to find a cheap tester, couple fast options below. Get a feel for the keys you enjoy. Then just focus on what you need / like. Multi-media keys, macros, back-lighting etc. The K90 (&95) Have 18 macro keys to 3 banks, 100% anti-ghosting, 3 tier blue lighting (k95 might have more color options I don't recall), multimedia keys including volume scroller, windows lock... I've enjoyed the keyboard though I'd rather a smaller simpler unit for FPS games. My two cents... Good luck and happy computing.

If you are dead set on a mechanical keyboard the first thing you need to do is find out which kind of switches you like. I'm all about Cherry mx blue switches. Fair warning: mx blues are obnoxiously loud if you don't enjoy the sound of keyboard clickedy clack. So find out which switch(s) you like and then base your search around that.

My keyboard cost 85 u.s. dollars on Amazon. (Not sure if it's the same price still) it's called cougar attack2. Blue cherry mx switches, 8 macros, removable braided mini-usb cable, no leds, and a relatively minimal design.

Rosewill sells a basic no frills mech board for 80-100 u.s. dollars and poseiden by tte sports is around the same price. Happy hunting!
