Hello, I have desided I need a new computer, but I am not sure if this is good enough. My budget is about $1700. I want this to be able to play games at great FPS, especally new ones, and last me about 10 years.
If you want to be able to run games at ood fps for 10 years you might want to crossfire if you are using eyefinity or crossfire 2 7950 other than that the build looks good.
10 years is a long time man, It may last 10 years reliability wise (if your lucky) but after about 4 I would imagine it would be running pretty slow compaired to your average pc. You could invest another $20 now to get the 3570k that will allow you to overclock it later for more speed if you want to invest in an aftermarket cooler later on as well. you will probaly also want more like 16gb ram in 4 years time. Thats just what i would imagine interms of general use.
Gaming on the other hand, theres no way you will be able to play the games that will be relesed in 10 years time with this rig, let alone maybe even in 4 years running the latest games on low settings. Theres always the option to add another graphics card of the same model when you need it tho.
I never said I wanted to play games at good FPS for 10 years. I just want this computer to be able to play recent games at good FPS. After the 5 year mark, I will probibly upgrade it, and then make it a secondary computer. Thanks for the help.
if you want 10 years go with an asus tuf board and 2x8gb ram. you will always need more ram. this is what i would do http://pcpartpicker.com/p/t0Ze I would not buy a mid range cpu and the hd i put in this build and the SSD are as close to server grade as you can get with out being server grand (going server grade will 3x the price). then i put a bluray burner in their because they probably will have killed dvd's by then. but to last 10 years i would look at geting 2 gpus and for multi gpus i would recommend 2 670's http://pcpartpicker.com/p/t10L (some games have problems with crosfire)
