i am new to gaming on pc and am planning on building mine soon the parts im thinking about are

case:nzxt 210 elite white

Processor amd phenom II x4 965 black  3.4ghz quad core

video card: evga ssc geforce 650 ti

ram ripjaws g skill 4x2 8gb

hard drive western digital 500 gb 7200 rpm

motherboard GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD

power supply nzxt hale 82 650 watt

i was just wondering if this is a good gaming build as i havnt dun this before but have reseached most parts a lot... any thoughts

also i will only be running games at 1600 x 900 as i cant afford a new monitor as of yet

It'll play games, but you're not going to be running them on the highest settings.

is there a better graphics card for the same amount or maybe a little more that would boost my gaming performance

I would suggest getting a smaller power supply since you dont need 650W on a small system like that.

Yeah you can get 7850 or even a 7870 for about the same price. Much better budget GPU's.
