Hey everyone, I recently discovered the wonders of pc gaming and I want to build my first gaming computer. Would this be a good computer build?
MSI H61M-P31 LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Motherboard
Intel Core i5-2380P Sandy Bridge 3.1 GHz LGA 1155 Quad-Core Processor
Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2GB GPU
Crucial Ballistix sport 8GB DDR3 1333 SDRAM
Raidmax Blackstone series RX-700AC 700W Modular Power Supply
I plan on running games like Skyrim with many texture packs and at 1920x1080 resolution. I also may run a few FPS as well. Thanks for the help.
good but you can get the same cpu performance from an amd fx 8120 ($160) and go with a mb with 970 chipset $80 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130637 (2gpu support) and you'll have more head room to oc
here is a good quality psu very good black cables http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817116014
better ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104262
Hey Thanks for the suggestions.
Also, should I upgrade to a ssd or is it just overkill?
SSDs included in a build is ldeal for an OS and applications. You'll see like 110% increase the time it takes to boot to the window environment from just after the POST and as well as for applications, but it's not limited to apps. Having an SSD for games will be a big advantage too. SSD owners will completely blank-point recommend you to add one to your rig.
if you have an extra $200 then get a 256gb Vertex4. In my opinion ssd's are needed for $1200+ builds and up if your under $900 putting a ssd in the build will take away from other parts like gpu and cpu. That said, I also think that anything less than 256gb for a boot drive and for programs/games is almost pointless. I Personaly have two vertex2 60gb in raid 0 and after I put on my games, CAD programes, and other stuff I used up 80gb's of storage. and then music and videos on top of that i soon ran out of space. Yes, I do have a 1tb HD for mass storage, but I'm lazy when it comes to moving shit over to storage. ( I have 400gb of free space... mainly anime) so in summery if you have the cash for it get one because the speed is Night and Day. if your tight on a buget but want the best pc for gaming then don't. it you get one buy a 256gb ssd for the convenience and if you need more storage you can get a second ssd and use the on board raid with out to much of a preformance hit (60-70% of full speed but you double the IOPS).
