First Build UPDATE

*** Update ***

Big thanks to Ratzzz and MisteryAngel for helping me pick the parts for my first build! All the parts have been purchased and are currently shipping. Will update with pictures once built.

Build : http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Trobop/saved/VDtLrH

In the next week I will throw in a k70 and a X-STAR DP2710 PLS Monitor or ASUS WG248QE still debating but most likely the 1440p panel.

On the second build you could save a good chunk of money by losing the liquid cooler and getting an aftermarket heatsink instead. While it would be nice to have liquid cooling it's not necessary, you could then allocate the money into getting an ssd or something else for the second build. Personally i would choose the second build with the 8320.

More on the lines of a 212 evo or a noctua d-14?

If 800 is your budget and you still have to buy a monitor and peripherals AND a GTX 970, neither of those builds will play out. Or am I missing something?

800 is for all components not including peripherals and gpu

yes

then why not an intel build with an i5?

agree

FX8320 will slightly bottleneck a GTX970, in cpu + gpu bound scenario´s

Let alone if you plan to game 4k, cause then you gonne need 2 GTX970´s. to get atleast some playable frame rates on medium setting.

Also 970 chipset boards dont support sli either so, you gonne need a 990FX board in the first place, if you ever wanne go 4k with dual 970´s. Only msi claims sli support on theire new Msi 970 Gaming board.... But if that realy works? ...

If you are an MMO gamer or Indie gamer, then i would recommend to go with a 4690K and Z97 mobo.

If you play allot of gpu bound games, then you will be fine the FX8320. games like Batman, tombraider, crysis 3, BF4 single player, bioshock, and such. on 1080p

will this build out perform the 8320 build? if so is there a large gap? Cause I feel $200 each for a mobo/cpu is steeeeep when looking at amd's and theyre half the price

the i5 build will destroy the AMD build

is there more of a budget mobo for the i5 you could suggest or is that the best for the money? and is that power supply solid? trying to allocate money for a Asus VS238H-P 23.0 btw.

you could look at a Msi Z97 gaming 5, but offcourse i dont know about what budget we talk ?.

I have a FX8350 my self, and it still puts up a good showing in most games. however like i said with cpu+gpu demending games  the i5-4690k will just be better.

For example, if you play BF4 multiplayer 64 people server, then the game become´s cpu + gpu bound, and they you will see some holding back on your GTX970. caused by the FX.

Its offcourse not realy a big deal, it will still be very well playable on a FX8320, but yeah it will not max out your gpu. in cpu + gpu demending games.

It does offcourse not mean that a FX8320 is a bad buy, cause tis definitely not, especialy on a budget. However if you are mainaly gaming, and you could afford an i5 i would go with that at the moment. Because intels has a much better per core performance, on which allot games still relay on, especialy MMO´s and indie´s. skyrim and such. games dont use more then 4 cores, even those  so called "multi threaded" games wont either. They are only optimized to spread the load over more threads, so if you have an i7 then you will have less load on the core´s then on an i5, however in terms of performance, those games still not perform better on an i7 then on an i5.  Only Watchdogs is an exception on this.

Like i said it does offcourse not mean, that those games are running bad on a FX8320, because they still run fine aswell, but the i5-4690k will just be better. But yeah also more expensive.

So my final 2 cents!

FX8320 is still a good buy if you are on a budget, however if you can afford a 4690K with Z97 board without sacreficing on gpu. Then i would recommend to go that route, for pure gaming.

If everything goes with flying colors : http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Trobop/saved/PBXV3C

If there are bumps in the road : http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Trobop/saved/D9kH99

Lotto build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Trobop/saved/BBXV3C

The first two are the main options because I have to have money for a monitor depending on how the only monitor I have is 1280x1024. But any last revisions on the first two cause I think theyre pretty solid!

If just small bump of $100 less than you thought  ... this mobo

Asus Z97-P ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z97p

Do your best to stay in the i5 z97 platform  ... it will game better than the AMD

if it comes to bumps in the road do not chose Kingston SSDnow (it is insanely slow)

spend the extra $20 for a fast SSD so your system seems faster

Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD

Edit ... I hope you hit the lottery   lol ... nice build

the first build definitely,

However the Asus maximus 7 hero is offourse a great board. But you could also look at a slightly cheaper one.

Offcoure not too cheap on a mobo.

It's a beautiful full feature board and has great sound ... just add premium headphones and they sound fantastic.

IMO the only board that is better is the Asus Formula but it costs $100 more.

If you need to save $70 this board is pretty darn good

Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz97xgaming5

yes the Maximus 7 Hero, will also be my new mobo ☺

just because of the great onboard audio, with sonic opt headphone amp

There is honestly too much ram to pick from. Can you recommend any brands/series/speeds

On the newer mobos ...

For an gamer Intel build you want 1.5v 240pin minimum of 8GB = 2X4GB 1600Mhz minimum

For AMD 1.5v or 1.65v 240pin minimum of 8GB = 2X4GB 1866Mhz minimum

with either try for the lowest Cas latency

when choosing for a productivity build (3D modeling  or video editing) ... you want at least 16GB minimum at higher frequencies
