First Build - Problems

Hi guys, I'm new to building PC's (though not new to pc gaming) and I've just finished assembling my first build, following this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4Js2A1qdB8.

Now everything seems to be plugged in right, lights/fans are on, but I'm not getting a display. I'm using HDMI on an LG television because right now I can't afford the monitor I want. I was wondering if it's even possible for me to load the BIOS via an HDMI cable or onto a television (I've tried plugging into both the GPU and Motherboard), and if so, what the problem is with my setup to where my television can't pick up a signal.

WHEW I GOT IT!!!!

I had some fans plugged into the "System Fan" slot, wondering if that was part of my wiring issues, so I tried unplugging them from that and it finally booted it up! I'm getting a display and everything, about to install Windows 8.1 now!

Thanks for all the help, if I didn't go through the things you all suggested, I feel like I would've more than looked over this simple step.

Are you posting? Have you checked all cables?

Gigabyte mobos in my experience sometimes have issues figuring out what to display on... i'd pull the GPU out and try the mobo again. It's fairly finicky for some stupid reason. One of the rigs I built on the Gigabyte mobo (might be the same one?) had a GPU in it, and for some reason it would only work a monitor on a specific DVI port, none of the rest would work unless multi-monitor, it was stupid.

Very nice build btw. Though the sound card was a waste.

Funny thing, I'm not totally sure how to remove my GPU because I don't know how to undo the piece on my MOBO that locks it in and I'm afraid to try and fail because I don't want to break it...

How exactly are these things undone?

Umm, it's usually just a tab that you push on that clicks out of place, then it's free to go.

I've pressed the tab from multiple angles but none seem make it budge.

Have you unscrewed the GPU? I can't help you if you can't figure this out... this is basic PC building... the rest will get even more advanced.

As in unscrewed it from the backplate? Yeah, the only thing in the way is that tab lock.

Well, time for you to figure out how to take out your GPU, good luck...

Press the tab down to unlock it. Simple as that.

Alright, I got it out (turns out I was just being a little squeemish for no reason; gave it some more force and it slid out.).

I turned it on again though, and I'm still getting no signal on my tv.

Did you double check the input on your t.v. to make sure you are on the right one?

Yeah, this tv will even recognize when cables are plugged into ports whether on or off, but I checked the others just in case.

Okay something I found while searching brings me a question: Do I have to have an OS installed in order to use HDMI? Or is the MOBO's BIOS able to display with HDMI before installing OS?

No you don't. It should display everything all the same or how else would you install an OS with no screen?

Did you double check every cable to make sure its plugged in all the way? Not just the HDMI but all of them.

Does anyone know if his MoBo is actually compatible with that CPU? PCPartpicker suggests it's possible the BIOS needs an update before it can use the Kaveri CPUs.

I would hate for this to be the problem, and it be overlooked due to the age of the board.

Also, while the MotherBoard doesn't have an onboard GPU, it's dependent on the CPU. That CPU doesn't have a GPU built in.

Yeah I was wondering about that, I did some reading that said to check the the site for the MOBO and see how long compatibility updates have been out. There's a chance that I read it wrong, but from what I could tell, it's been supporting Kaveri for a while now.

I also see that the MOBO has had issues arriving DOA and giving the same issue you are having, everything lights up but there is no video.

So my next step would be to contact customer support or something?

So then I have no choice but to use the GPU?
