Hi guys, I'm new to building PC's (though not new to pc gaming) and I've just finished assembling my first build, following this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4Js2A1qdB8.
Now everything seems to be plugged in right, lights/fans are on, but I'm not getting a display. I'm using HDMI on an LG television because right now I can't afford the monitor I want. I was wondering if it's even possible for me to load the BIOS via an HDMI cable or onto a television (I've tried plugging into both the GPU and Motherboard), and if so, what the problem is with my setup to where my television can't pick up a signal.
I had some fans plugged into the "System Fan" slot, wondering if that was part of my wiring issues, so I tried unplugging them from that and it finally booted it up! I'm getting a display and everything, about to install Windows 8.1 now!
Thanks for all the help, if I didn't go through the things you all suggested, I feel like I would've more than looked over this simple step.
Gigabyte mobos in my experience sometimes have issues figuring out what to display on... i'd pull the GPU out and try the mobo again. It's fairly finicky for some stupid reason. One of the rigs I built on the Gigabyte mobo (might be the same one?) had a GPU in it, and for some reason it would only work a monitor on a specific DVI port, none of the rest would work unless multi-monitor, it was stupid.
Very nice build btw. Though the sound card was a waste.
Funny thing, I'm not totally sure how to remove my GPU because I don't know how to undo the piece on my MOBO that locks it in and I'm afraid to try and fail because I don't want to break it...
Yeah, this tv will even recognize when cables are plugged into ports whether on or off, but I checked the others just in case.
Okay something I found while searching brings me a question: Do I have to have an OS installed in order to use HDMI? Or is the MOBO's BIOS able to display with HDMI before installing OS?
Does anyone know if his MoBo is actually compatible with that CPU? PCPartpicker suggests it's possible the BIOS needs an update before it can use the Kaveri CPUs.
I would hate for this to be the problem, and it be overlooked due to the age of the board.
Yeah I was wondering about that, I did some reading that said to check the the site for the MOBO and see how long compatibility updates have been out. There's a chance that I read it wrong, but from what I could tell, it's been supporting Kaveri for a while now.
