First build. Is this a good deal?

My friend is selling me his old Palit Nvidia Geforce GTX560, AsRock H55 mobo, and Gskill ripjaws (1x4GB) 1600 for $135 total. I need help creating a good build around these parts. This will be my first build.

FIRST OF ALL, is this even a good idea for a build or should I go out and buy all newer parts since these use 1156 which I hear is very old?? $550 budget. Open to any ideas using these parts, or if I should make an entirely different build with this budget. Thank you all!

I'd like to play at better-than-console graphical settings. Would that be possible with those parts?

Games I'll be playing - Skyrim, Minecraft, BF3, WoW, Starcraft games, Dark Souls, etc.

If this is the card your friend has, then I sould say that the deal he gave you is an ok deal. Ask him if he will go cheaper if you don't take the mobo, and you can take the money that you save and get another 4GB stick of ram, and then I would suggest getting AMD or Intel. Amd is great for a budget, but intel has the power.

Also, almost anything now will beat out console graphics. Consoles are outdated garbage.

anything beats consoles.. :D

I think the deal is good, but i think if I where you I would just see if you could buy the GPU and build a system using just the GPU.. then when you have the money in a few months get either a gtx660TI or AMD 7950

take a look at this:

that should be pretty good for some years when you upgrade the GPU in a little while.. :)

I buildt this under the asumption that the 550dollar budget is only the hardware, not monitor, mouse and keyboard?

Personally I would recommend getting a p67/z75/z77 board, and a 2500k, and see if you can get another 4gb stick of 1600 for cheap, then all you need is a case, a psu, and a cd/dvd drive all of which would be in your price range, and you would be set for a little while, then get yourself a nice heatsink and a newer video card in 6+ months time and your computer will be great.

A friend made this build for me assuming I would take the GPU and mobo. Is this any good or should I go with your build? Thanks

Do not get the mobo! Move to the 1155 socket. An i5 would be good but you could do i3 if money is really tight. And yes that 560 will allow you to play most games on high settings. Even on 1080p. I wouldnt expect 60+ frames but its playable
