First build guidance

Hi all, here is the config I am looking to build. It is primarily for video editing, photoshop, using as a networked htpc, as well as for being able to play the latest games coming out next year with high settings. I don't game frequently, but when I do I want the settings to be high. I would like to be able to play games like Gta iv and next year's Gta v well.

Cooler master 212+ (already purchased)

Asrock z77 extreme4

Corsair vengeance 16gb ddr3-1600

Intel 330 180gb ssd (already purchased)

Msi GeForce GTX 660 Ti PE/OC

Seasonic 750w (already purchased)

Fractal design r4 titanium windowed

My main concern here is gpu. I want to spend between 230-300 on the gpu. I am thinking between 660 TI, 7870, or 7950. I do not plan to overclock as I have no experience in doing so and would not want to compromise the card from lasting a long time before upgrading. From what I have read on newegg, the 7950 has high idle temps and loud fans, so that is something I would be concerned about.

I appreciate suggestions with any component. Thanks.

You are good to go with your current build specs, but as far as gaming performance is concerned i'd recommend an hd 7950 instead of the 660ti if you want it to last long enough to play future games titles on high graphical settings.

I would disagree with Max Payne, I also thought of "futureproofing" a system and it's quite impossible really with everything being phased out so quickly, new architextures, the lack of innovation really and I mean direct x advancements. If you really are exceeding 1080p then maybe go farther than the 660ti, but even in my regard the 660ti is the mark.

Thanks. If that is the case with the difficulty in futureproofing, would you recommend to go with the onboard HD4000 if I am video editing but no gaming. And then in a year, when the games I want are out, to upgrade to a then $250-$300 card? I haven't really followed gpu's in the past. Do you typically expect significant gains in graphical performance between now and 10 months from now?

The waiting game is a fool's game. If you can say that now, then you can say that again next time, and on and on.

The 7950 is better at higher resolutions, as it has 3GBs of ram. And IMO, it's better than the 660 Ti. Just get one with a decent cooling solution and you'll be fine. OC it and you'll get performance at somewhere between a 670 or 680.

The 660 TI PE from MSI is a great GPU (what I'm using) i overclocks amazing and out performance the other vendors 660 ti

Understood. Practically speaking though, getting a ~$250 card and not using it for 10 months seems a waste when I can buy the same card for much less in 10 months when I actually will need one. The integrated solution may just be useful in a desktop for me to hold out until I will start gaming with the PC.

if you has periphrials, that would cut down on the price soem. intended purpose is the same as yours

and for graphics AMD>nvidia

that is where u is wrong, if you do it right, a build can be good for at least 5 yrs....

I'd recommend getting a different SSD, like a kingston HyperX or the Adata logan reviewed
