First build advice. intel or amd?

This is going to be my first build and after about a month of looking i have come up with these two options.

Intel: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/uim2

Amd: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/uiKb

Any suggestions or critisisms are welcome.

Also if I could get each build for the same price is there any reason to not get the intel build?

Edit: The main use for this rig would be gaming.

If you can get it for the same price or money is no object.. then Intel no question. It will outperform the AMD set up. It also will take advantage of PCIe 3.0.

Thats sort of what I expecting to see. Thank you for the confirmation.

AMD is more for budget builds, and you really do get a lot of bang for your buck. There is really no large performance difference between AMD and Intel to be honest, however support for Intel tends to be better and so you will find better performance because of that reason alone.

What do you mean by "support"?

Get the intel for current games and editing programs. The AMD is close in games to a few fps behind it, but has 2 extra cores which you most likely won't use for de/encrypting or archiving or future programs

no graphics cards are currently able to use PCI-E 3.0, current gen cards are not even able to fully saturate the bandwidth of PCI-E 2.0

as for the AMD build, i would spend the same amount as on the intel build by going for a 7950 or 7970, which will outperform a i5+7870
