Hi am new at truenas and all linux things i just purchased a Dell Precision T7920 Barebone With Motherboard with Dual INTEL Xeon Gold 6144 8 Core 3.50GHZ 24.75MB 150W CPU Processo 1400W Power Supply and 256G of ECC RAM, 96TB for my truenas and i purchased another Dell Precision T7810 2x Xeon E5-2687W V3 3.1GHz,128GB Ram a Nvidia 4070 ti for plex and other stuff. Neither of them support passthrough for my Nvidia Card i am a little frustrated because of that my brother sold me his AMD 5950x with a x570 MSI MPG CARBON MAX WIFI so i can change it for the Dell Presicion T7810 but it dosent let me install proxmox because the board is not compatible can anyone recommend me a good motherboard for that processor for proxmox.
Hi @isamarupr , welcome to Level1!
Do you have another graphics card (maybe onboard) in these systems? Having only a single GPU in the system would explain why you cannot passthough this single GPU to a VM.
I don’t think “INTEL Xeon Gold 6144” and “Xeon E5-2687W V3” CPUs have integrated graphics.
Unless your systems come with multiple graphics cards (doesn’t sound like it) you’re stuck.
It is not possible to pass through the lone single graphics card installed in a system.
I am surprised to hear that any x570 motherboard would not be compatible with proxmox.
I would double-check in the BIOS that the virtualization and IOMMU options are enabled.
Also as an FYI, the “AMD 5950x” CPU also doesn’t have an integrated graphics card.
Unless this system has more than one graphics card, GPU passthrough will not be possible, either.
Hi yes i have another nvidia 2060 Super 16g
Check Secure Boot / Trusted Boot setting in BIOS. Proxmox installer can be quirky with the wrong settings. Or was it UEFI/BIOS boot that was troubling Proxmox? I’ve seen this problem before…can’t remember 100%.
Otherwise you only need a board with good IOMMU groups. Not all boards are created equal. My X570D4U is very good on the groups but I know that’s not the norm.
