Just thought a few might be interested in the following:
Irrational Exuberance (Robert J. Shiller): http://www.amazon.com/Irrational-Exuberance-Robert-J-Shiller/dp/0767923634 This is a book about the housing bubble and the harm that speculative bubbles have on the greater economy.
And anything from this list: http://www.bogleheads.org/readbooks.htm
I made a geniune post, thinking some people might enjoy learning from the above books. They are quite good and the book list in the second link comes from a famous free investing forum (diehards.org / bogleheads.org) that originally grew out of the morningstar.com forum. This forum is not totally unlike TS/RATW (meaning, the people there are smart and try to help each other out, often following advice that deviates from what the masses are doing). Response to my post? Two mocking replies that are totally unwarranted.
Okay.... And this place is supposed to be somewhere we can post without people being dicks? Umm... sure, whatever.
FWIW, I saw in the bitcoin forum and older thread where somebody was asking for my opinion on something. Sorry I didn't notice it to whomever asked that. I have no desire to post here anymore because even suggestions like the above books are met with ridicule.
More power to the two of you. I wish I could only say I was as confident about everything as you two are. I think it's a pretty shitty community when a respected person (who gets shoutouts from Logan in a video) treats newcomers like this. But, then again,
"Everything, even respected members of the community, jerks."
hey be glad you get responses, 90% of my post that I start remain with zero people commenting
it wasn't that mean
and the way you worded your post was kinda um stiff, like spambot stiff
I'm sure it is interesting to someone
also even if its just for shits and giggles, they bumped the thread higher up in forum meaning more people would see this post longer, much unlike many of my post that remain dead
this is a international forum, you get all kinds here that's just how it is
also the main demographic is from 16-26 males expect some non-serious post about finacle planning on a computer tech driven forum
Fair enough... I hadn't thought of it that way. Sorry.
I didn't realize it came across as stiff/bottish either (not really sure how I could avoid that, didn't want to ramble on and on since I have a problem with writing TL;DR posts).
Anyway, sorry to Rytak and DrainZZZ. Didn't realize you guys were helping. I'd edit/delete what I wrote above, but then gigabuster's comment wouldn't have full context. So, um yeah.. my bad. /embarrassed
To be clear, my reply was only a snarky remark about the reply by DrainZZZ.
It was meant to be a sarcastic form of a bump for others to view the thread, not taken seriously.
As per your question in the bitcoin thread, if you want, you can send me an email and I will repsond to it with the best of my knowledge and ability.
EDIT: No problems man. And that offer still stands. Another form of contact is through the site's mumble server that I run for the benefit of the community. So if you want to pop by there sometime and get some live feedback, there are always people online to chat with.
As for the question, it's actually something a couple of people asked me (and somebody else) about valuation or something like that. I have no idea why they asked me what I thought, considering I'm just a simple country lawyer, but on the off chance they saw my post here, I didn't want to think I had just blown them off (when I was raging here about how my post was received).
That was awhile back, as was this OP, so it's just bad form on my part (thread-necroing). I was just so busy over the last few weeks haven't had time to respond, and was feeling a bit grouchy when I called you out (erroneously) a couple of posts ago.
Anyway, thanks for the offer to help (and the bump) and sorry again.
