Thanks to the last 3 years of hardcore computing, my fucking 8 year old monitor is comming to its end as of today. Here's how it went or turned out: this morning, when I turned on my PC, after it posted, the screen went blank and stalled but the system was running fine as FPS Doug would said to his. At that time, I thought, it's another OS bug. Damn 7 RC. However after school, when I switched the monitor back on, it went blank again. I took the thought from the morning and I reseted the system. The display was up again, but as soon as I login, the brightness or the lighting was kinda poor, so I gave it a slap and it went to normal.
So yeah, this suspects me that my monitor is FINALLY DYING!!! For the past 2 months, I was looking at this monitor due to size when placed on the desk. I was going for this 26" one, but by looking at the 24", I was like, that'll hardly fit in a such small space. My budget also affected me from getting the 26". So it's 24".
Another thing, the T240 had been out of stock for a while. I'd get it if there were some.
Disclaimer: My ISP capped my speed again. Dealing with them then...
half a grand for a monitor? seems a bit much, even for a 24".
bigger isnt always better, as the bigger the screen the further away you need to sit from it or you will strain your eyes. a 24 inch screen should be atleast 3 feet away, thats why alot of people mount them on the wall behind their desk.
i was going to buy a new monitor soon also, but the 24" screens i was looking at were between 2 and 300 $.
Yah you can sit pretty damn close to a 24". Some ppl say you cant, but thats cause they don't use it all the time. You'll get use to it in about 2 days.
You can sit just as close to a 30" without problem aslong as the resolution is like 2500x2600 (or something like that cant remember) When you sit infront of your monitor (say like 20-24") you can still see alot of the wall behind, so getting a bigger screen with high resolution would just use that space, and give you a bigger workspace. not stretch anything.
Oh and.. If a 24 and 26 got same resolution, go 24", because the 26 will just take more space and still have same workspace.
Most up to date Valve games ;). You dont need a wider field of view. The question is really; How many "new" games run fine on such high resolutions? (For the everyday man on the street. Not Maxishoine)
I ask this question about FOV, because when playing on a 30+ screen, using a Widescreen resolution.  if the FOV is still 90degrees.. (as with some I have played) It's like playing with tunnel vision.
I think playing on a widescreen monitor with only a 90degree FOV is like walking around with binoculars attached to your face.
I have 22" and 24" monitors. I crank the FOV on every FPS that allows it.
Sitting that close to a monitor that is over 30" would get really annoying if my peripheral vision would be considered "everything that is supposed to be directly in front of me."
i was talking about putting strain on your phyiscal eyeballs, leading to problems. ever stare at a screen too long and get blind spots? it can happen when your eyes are strained. you need to have a certain distance between yourself and the screen, the distance increases as your screen size does.
its like when your mother would say "dont sit so close to the tv" ...they werent completely wrong about that assumption.
not to mention, in a game i like to be able to view the entire screen without having to turn my head.
