Finally making the switch from console

Hello, I am looking to build myself a beginner PC for around $400. I know it will be a tight squeeze but I have heard this is the place to come to with these sorts of projects. I am not opposed to buying used parts as I think it will help me get some better deals, although I would prefer using new ones. I play currently on a Dell Inspiron i7559 with an i7 and 960m. This is nice for now but I'd like to have a desktop to game on while at home. I play LoL and CSGO quite often, but would like to get into a few more hardcore titles if I have a PC that could run them at decent frame rates. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

GPU is by far the most important part. So that will be the most expensive thing.

Your best chance of getting everything you want might be to search for an old office system with i5 and slap a RX 480 in there.

Will the fact that it is an older system have an effect on the overall gameplay? Like will that take away from the overall performance of the graphics card?

Also would it eBay be the best place to look for an older system like that?

Good...

Goooooood...

Most likely no. There are some games that also push the CPU or memory (GTA V as an example) but most games will run completely fine on an older i5 and 8 gigs of memory. Try to get something like an i5 2400 or 2500 or basically anything that is not first gen. i5.

Yeah a 2400/2509 with 8GB or ram and rx480 would be sweet combo. It would tear up 1080 easily. Corners would have to be cut on case and motherboard and possibly PSU.

But that system would way outperform a console. @tbott44 if you can wait a mont a save a little more cash? Iy would give some breathing room for the build.

Selling my
2500k will clock up to 5.1 GHZ cpu speed,
at that speed its matching an i7 3770
Asus p8z68vprogen3
And memory
For ohh you know, bout tree fiddy.

Yeah I could wait, also everywhere I look the rx 480 is either sold out or is selling for far more than the $200 it was advertised for, so I might have to wait for that to go down as well. Thanks for the suggestions!

Things will stabilize once the non reference cards come out. Use that time to save. But about $500 with a few older/used parts should yield a fairly sweet system.

Do you have any older hardrives or optical drives you can scavenge to bring build cost down?

I don't think so, my family has never really owned desk tops, we all just have laptops.
