I am using ffmpeg (on Ubuntu 14.04) to convert a .mov file into a format which will play on DVD players. There several different types. Any suggestions on which is file formate is best and will play on most dvd players?
Burning movies to a DVD for play in most DVD players can't be done by drag and drop through a file manager. In order for a DVD player to read it, it has to be specifically authored for DVD playback. You can install a program to do this through the Ubuntu Software Center called "DeVeDe" that will do this.

There are SOME DVD players that can read regular file formats, which will allow you to cram more movies on a disc, they usually have the format on the front of the player.
