FF is not an RPG.. moving the conversation here

ok... here is my opinion...

most console "RPG" games are not true RPG games. Zelda, FF, etc... they are Adventure games with strong RPG elements.

In a true RPG game you create a character then play that role... it is not an RPG if the character or characters are created for you and you simply assume their role. It is an adventure game... and true, you do play the role of Link the entire game in zelda, but you have no choice... and therefore it is like an adventure game in that regard... even though the leveling and advancement structure is like that of an RPG.

RPG's are about creating a character. I think it is nearly impossible to have a true RPG unless you create the character yourself... and it can be only one character, not a party... I know, I'm a purist... but I started with the real D&D growing up in the 80's.

that's my opinion... let's fight about it!!! lol.

lol D&D...i played it for a bit too =P

i agree with you, RPG's you should be able to make ur own char and follow your own story. i do enjoy zelda games though, though twilight princess was too damn easy i stopped playing half way through cause it bored the hell out of me

i actually like Zelda a lot... was my favorite game for a while growing up...

ya most definitions iv seen for rpg always mention character customization and emphasize that you actions effect the outcome of the game. not sure on the second part but ya.

it doesn't really matter to much to me though, adventure games rpgs.... basket weaving simulators...

they are all can be good.

lol.

Well I honestly just dont see FF as anything but an RPG.

Coincidentally neither does, Gamespot, IGN or 1up.

lol.

big lulz.. i see logan's point, but i'll still continue to call the FF series an RPG series.

or why not just start calling it RPAG lolol

lol actually as much as i hate to say it, re-reading logans post I 100% agree with him

lol

But i wouldnt completley shun Final Fantasy from the RPG world, Yes its not Oblivion or Morrowind but it does have strong RPG elements.

I say final fantasy is in its own sub category as an adventure/rpg game.

:P

RPAG BABY, LET'S DO THIS! after i get some sleep, PEACE

i loved zelda damn that game was soo awsome best story ever i believe

it pissed me off when they released the new ones after majoura's mask

even majouras mask sucked

but the original n64 one was one of the best games ever made

and yes it is a adventure game instead of rpg

I believe the RPG is built into two major structures, Choice-Role and Chosen-Role. Choice-Role being The Elder Scrolls, Chosen-Role being Final Fantasy. Nevertheless, I do believe they are both Role-Playing Games because you are playing the role of a virtual character that can be personalized, whether or not you got to create the character model, storyline and personality for them or not. I prefer to walk my own path, so Choice-Role is my bag.

Woot! We have someone who agrees with my opinions! I love youuuuu logan!

Well actually now that i think about it...

Final fantasy 1 and 2 meet your standards for being an RPG other that creating your character model.

You get five people of different classes name them yourself and get a basic story

There's like a crystal gonna be used for evil, Here's a map, Have fun

And that's about it lol

Well, if you don't create a character, that destroys it. I'd rather spend 2 hrs creating a character than 2 hours from start to finish of the game.

try 40 hours +

:P

If you can beat any final fantasy game in 2 hours you're either cheating or a god

Its impossible :3

Well think of having the character pre built like having a character pre built in a DND game. I would say an RPG is assuming the role of a character while games like oblivion are OPEN ENDED RPG's as in there are no limits, but then theres the mixes like GTA 4 were its "open ended" but all you can REALLY do is kill people in ruthless ways. so yeah theres my 2 cents

just like gay sex isnt normal sex wtf is wrong with the world these days

lol gay sex, normal sex. hahha id perfer normal tyvm

i haven't liked a ff enough to beat.

actually the only 4 disk ps1 game i ever beat was the legend of the dragoon. would have beat crono cross but my brother broke the disk.

Legend of the dragoon was pretty good.

Favorite PS1 game is Xenogears though.

That game is fuckin off the chain.

my fav was mgs1.

legend of the dragoon alright, it wasnt that fun but after the first twist in the plot i just wanted to see what happened and i got sick for a couple weeks and just sat and played it.

did u like chrono cross i was really into it until the disk broke.
