Ferguson; Equality and the future of Human Rights

With the ongoing situation in Ferguson and other unreported cases in other states of America and other countries. The abuse of power due to capital greed and the removal of Human rights. The toxic discrimination of people of every colour, gender and belief. We are sitting in the middle of one of the largest developments in all of human history. And yet, we are heading down a path of chaos with no thought to the rights we as humans deserve.

There is no denying this society is racist. I am lucky enough to live in a multicultural country where acts of discrimination is much lower compared to for example the United States of America where to this day, A disgusting society where you are considered a better person if you are white and or male. This does not translate to all white and or male people being racist, sexist bigots however this are two huge issues, We are too accepting that we as individuals can’t do anything or that it is just how things are and we are too worried about losing our comfortable life. Here is why we should all care.

This affects everyone. The rights of humans as a hole are being taken away. People are being criminalized for speaking out against the government. Edward Snowden is in hiding because of this, it also lead to the death of Aaron Swartz who believed everyone had the right to information. He was to receive 50 years in prison and a 1 million dollar fine for what he believed in. How is theft of information to distribute freely to the public worse than murder and rape? What he did was illegal yes but what is illegal nowadays? Congregating in a group in some regions of Australia is illegal. In the United Kingdom, The United States of America and Australia, Speaking out against the government is illegal.  Watching BDSM porn or even watching people having sex in animal costumes is illegal in the UK. Hell even in places protesting is now illegal or being a single male in a UK public park.

The USA oligarchy and every other country that is following in its footsteps needs to be stopped.  The situation in Ferguson is not only evident of a racial problem with the United States police force but also a demonstration of the control that the government is trying to enact. Militarization of the police force in a 1st world country, killing minorities including children for god knows why and allowing those people to not only get away with it but reward it with hundreds of thousands of dollars. Criminalizing pirates as if downloading a song off the pirate bay is worse than shooting a school full of children. Speaking out against the government can lead to the death penalty.

We as humans, It does not matter what colour your skin is, I am talking all people need to fight for each other. There are a lot of good people who do not fight because they don’t believe they can do anything or they are not affected. Martin Niemöller nailed this issue with this famous statement.

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

In the last 24 hours however, I have seen some of the worst comments I have ever seen. White supremacy is still a massive problem. With what people are saying I question if this planet will ever become one. If we will ever see a fair society where everyone is equal. If we are all free and not controlled through force by governments run by big industry. However you have to remember, The Roman Empire fell. In the last 100 years we have made huge steps forward in terms of equality. It is just now we have forces pushing us back.

We need to work together. We need to put aside our differences and move forward. The current system does not work but we can move forward. We all want happiness and it is not impossible for us all to be happy together.  If we don’t try, it will get worse.  Don’t let this be the end of any chance of Equality and freedom.

Fully agree. We live in a world where the only thing that's globalized is the modern economy. There will always be some degree of racism, it's natural to discriminate things that's different from what we're used to. It's not just about cultural differencies, ethnicity or beliefs, it's about everything. Even in the tech industry; people bash new innovations and designs and the neverending OS wars. We're hardwired to shy away unfamiliarities, it helped us survive back in the days.

Societies are built by individuals, so we as individuals need to start thinking for ourselves with our own brains, rather than group think, and state our own thoughts ignoring but acknowledging & respecting the views of others. After all, we're all equally idiots.

A tip what everyone can do from the comfort of their own homes; start reading newspapers from different countries. We all know how to acquire information, but we have to remember to filter out facts from fiction.

Did you read the transcript from the case, if not please do.

The Ferguson case is nothing but a sidenote here

Those are some bold generalizations you are making I would like to see some sources to these

There is no denying this society is racist.

I think this is a vocal minority in the states, I don't walk down the street seeing people spitting on other people because they're a different skin tone, There's also the streisand effect concerning general media going on here, Media itself loves to play the racist card because it gets views and everyone talks about it.

To generalize that US Society is racist is a fallacy,

The abuse of power due to capital greed and the removal of Human rights.

The courts are put in place to uphold the law, and the supreme court reviewed all the evidence and made a their decision, I would like some proof that their decision went against the law with the intention of malice.

The United States of America and Australia, Speaking out against the government is illegal.

IIRC Obama acknowledge that there would be protests, and he urged people to do them peacefully. Not to throw bottles

So facts don't matter?

I agree there are severe issues with inequality (I have lived in it) but Ferguson is not a good example.

Or burn down black owed businesses, how exactly does that help anyone in that community?

Pretty big extrapolations. The story could also have been: Pizza delivered too late; Famine, Drought and Climate Change.

It's an extreme example actually.

I agree, great post.

Simply put ...........Far to many decisions have been made against the best interests of the people. We need to fix the US government but how is the burning question. ( On a personal note. Holding our goverment accountable for their bad decisions would be a good step in the right direct. Start putting them on trial for crimes against humanity or the American people. We will see less of these issues. ) Popular opinion represents a very real danger in American culture. Mostly because its almost always wrong.

+1

I guess its time for me to pull this out. I was a minority in my high school. I went a predominantly black high school, with the 2nd largest group being Hispanic. As a white male, I was the minority there. Did I deal with discrimination? Not particularly, I am quite good at getting along with people, and most of the kids were friendly, and genuinely curious about me because I was so different (I grew up and live on a farm). But I can also say there was a lot of stupidity that happened in that school. Lots of pregnant freshmen, fight clubs in the hallways, random drug checks, metal detectors and pat downs at dances (if you can call them dances, they were pretty much nightclubs, and you were guaranteed to find a few used condoms on the floor at the end of the night) But despite all this I still had friends there. It was pretty much how I stopped being a racist. You have to live as a minority for a while to understand how they feel when they are a minority in a situation.

That being said, applying for scholarships in a nightmare. If you are a black/hispanic female, there are over ten thousand scholarships you can apply for. If you are a white male, you get around...600. The USA has multitudes of support systems in place for "minority" groups. It is up to them to decide to take them. Most of them don't. Most of those kids at my high school had no plans for college, not even aware of the scholarships they could literally get just for being born the way they were. No, they will continue living in that dead end town, playing the drug game, and going nowhere, or maybe move to another town to play games there.

I went on another rant again didn't I? I need to stop looking at these threads...

Vote!

Write your congress Criters (State and National) when they do something that pisses you off. Let them know they will not get your vote nor will anyone else you will vote for them. Stay informed take some time every month to look at their voting record so you know where they stand.

This era of civil disengagement is what is killing America.

Voting in the united states doesnt mean anything. Electoral colleges control politcs. Who controls the electoral colleges ( Money ) If we as a people start holding are government accountable for their decisions that will change They keep making bad decisions that negatively impact a massive amount of people. The penalty for it is? They keep getting richer and there is almost no accountabilty. Oh. they might not get voted in next term. So what! They are already rich. A sweet spot for criminals. Yes, i have negative view of our government. I do have this idea about every person in this country having to do civil service within the government for a term of somekind. Kind of like signing up for the draft. There are some holes in it because some people wouldnt be qualified per say. A government run by the people for the people. I dont meant the popular. I mean all the people. First we would need to raise the education standard as a whole in order for something like that to even have a chance of working. Just a idea thats bouncing around. :) Lots of holes.

Here is poor white male. https://soundcloud.com/preacherzofthesavagetruth/the-phoenix or  https://soundcloud.com/josh-schaurer/denial-new-album-version Mostly its like this https://soundcloud.com/leekajko/bipolar

You also don't know how the government works. The electoral college is for the president and is used to ensure the candidates have to run in all states. Congress is voted in directly. So yes, your vote and the votes around you do matter. Their are 3 branches of government and the legislative is the one that has the most contact with the public. Use that to your advantage. Senator and house members make the laws so influence the way they vote.

After reading trough the transcript up until page 281 I can't see what people are so upset about. It seems that the public is reacting from the basis of an ideology rather than going trough the evidence themselves.
