Feedback req on proposed Threadripper 7000 build

If you’re up for it, just skip the case controller entirely and plug all your fans directly into the board with splitters. Less hassle, more control.

I use Corsair Commander( 6 fans) & ICUE works with all PWM 4 pin fans. You will Probs need corsair USB 2.0 hub as there isn’t many of them on mobos these days. ICue my screenshot.

yah, i don’t care about the case controls.

Yeah Define XL has its own hub but i took it out and replaced with the above

The “auto” bifurcation setting doesn’t work correctly in conjunction with the ASUS Hyper M.2 x16 Gen5 Card cards.

This got me a bit because it looks like when I flashed to the new F4 BIOS it reset them all back to “auto”, then took me a bit to figure out why things stopped working. Complicated by me discovering they were back in auto, then changing them to 4x4x4x4, then forgetting to SAVE when exiting. :face:

The manual says “The PCIX16 slot can only support a graphics card or an NVMe SSD. If only one graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16_1 slot.”.

I’m not clear what they’re trying to say there.

I assume they mean “PCIX16_1”, not “PCIX16” since “PCIX16” doesn’t mean anything to me in this context.

I’m currently running one of the NVMe x4 PCI adapters in PCIX16_1 (but currently with only one module populated), and the GPU in PCIX16_4 since that slot has a little bit more clearance for airflow.

So far I haven’t noticed any ill effects of the GPU where I have it, but I guess the jury is still out till I add more modules on the card.

Three (now working) ASUS 4x NVMe to PCI5 adapters

Interestingly enough, gpu temps seem fine. I was a bit worried since there is limited clearance for the intake, but I guess there’s enough and the air intake temp is probably good.

I forgot to mention it, but the only notable problem I’ve had so far with this board wasn’t a problem with the board, but rather Windows 11 Pro insists on having a network as part of the install*, but must not had drivers at that point in the install for these NICs.

Basically it stopped at a window saying it needed the network but provided no ways to do anything, you were basically stuck at that window.

Googling provided a workaround you could hit a sequence and run a command which then provided an option to proceed with a local user and you could select that and continue.

I didn’t actually have to manually provide drivers, so evidently it was just funky ordering issue.

So far system is running well.

so after all these years of building systems, this is the first time i added leds (or a window)

so after i sorted out all the fans and they’re all idling nicely… it’s still loud!

so i find the culprit

these suckers are loud :joy:

so i disconnect the fans. i wasn’t even using the adapter’s heatsink for two of the units, and considering the sound, i figure the big hunk of aluminum is probably good enough without the fan

so now we’re nice and quiet.

cept the external storage :upside_down_face::joy:
