Favourite Thermal Paste?

Hey guys,

So I've been using Arctic Cooling MX-4 for the past year and a half, no complaints at all.

However, I  recently augmented my fan setup in my rig and changed the fans on my Kraken. I took the opportunity to also change the thermal paste on my cpu.

My friend had raved about Arctic Silver 5 and I've read a lot of good things on the net about it, so I'm  trying it out.

So far, no real difference in temps, maybe even a few C higher with AS5?

What are your favourite thermal pastes?

i like the prolimatech thermal paste.

here are the specs

  • Mfr Part Number: PRO-PK3-5G
  • Features:
    • High Thermal Conductivity
    • Low Thermal Conductivity
    • Long-term Stability
    • Non-Corrosive
    • No "burn-in" time required
  • Material:
    • Al: 70~88 wt%
    • ZnO: 18~34 wt%
    • Oil: 8~12 wt%
    • antioxidant: 0.5~2 wt%
  • Specific Gravity: 2.7 g/cm³
  • Adhesiveness: 330000Cps
  • Thermal Conductivity: 11.2 W/m-℃
  • Thermal impedance: 0.013 ℃-in2/W
  • Weight: 5.0 g

Arctic Cooling MX-4 is my go to paste its cheap and works well, Arctic Silver 5 is conductive -put a little too much on the cpu and it gets down into the cpu socket thats a dead system.

+1 for the MX-4 its the thermal paste im using on my system, cheap, effective and non conductive, also i have seen some tests that it surpassed the Arctic Silver 5

great article on toms

CoolLaboratory Liquid Ultra.

I use Prolimatech PK-1

arctic silver ceramic 2, because they spell ceramic in fake french, it makes my pc 40% fancyer

I'm using Arctic Silver 5 with my Havik 140 at the moment.  To be honest, I'll use just about any half decent TIM I can get my hands on.  I don't swear by any particular thermal compound.  The most important thing to keep in mind is the application method.

If you can, I would try re-applying the AS5 and re-seating your CPU cooler.  I think AS5 also takes some time to cure. Once the compound spreads out and settles, the temps should improve.

LMAO

As a french citizen myself, this statement gets all of my what.

I use Arctic Silver 5 in my machine and I have no complaints, it's fairly cheap and does a good job. It also cleans up nicely off the CPU.

Now another thermal paste that was recommended to me by the people over at Linus Tech Tips IC Diamond 7(Linus himself apparently prefers to use the stuff instead of AS5);it was also very recommended by a lot of other forums. So I went on eBay and bought some, well at the time I was building a friend's PC and decided to try it out. Big mistake, the thermals didn't improve and the paste scratched the surface of the CPU and it was quite a bitch, per say, to remove it. I spent 30-45 minutes trying to do it. Bad purchase..... I then replaced it with AS5 and the temps increased by 9C and I never told my friend of what happened and how his APU now has a scratch on the surface.......

Ever since I built my first PC, I been using using arctic silver before there was a number as far as I remember. Currently using Arctic Silver 5 with my Evo 212 (If I'd have read that the evo came with paste I probably would not have got the AS-5 lol)

stay classy my friends

So do you just put a beret on your rig and feed it fresh baguettes and bad tasting assortment of cheeses? =P

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I'm going to let the AS5 "cure" for the 200hrs that's recommended and then make my final judgement.

Nothing was wrong with my MX-4 temps, I just lost my syringe! Must be around here SOMEWHERE!!!

I don't care too much about thermal paste. My CPU maxes at around 45c so a few degrees isn't anything to stress about for me. I switch between some cheap cooler master crap that came with my hyper n-520 and Thermaltake Tg-2 and I have noticed no difference between them.
