Favorite procesor of all time?

After seeing the amd 64 on the thermal paste video, remembered how awesome the 51FX was 10yrs ago. Which is ur favorite processor of all time?

Probably the Q6600 G0.  It's one of those processors that are pan-generational.  They are part of a generation of processors that represent a significant step forward in terms of performance and functionality, perform extremely well in their price bracket (and beyond), overclock like the dickens, and continue to perform well against newer processors for many years.  Matter of fact, my Q6600 is still pulling duty in my HTPC/Living room gaming rig, and does so well.

So, yeah.  Q6600 G0.

Z80 as it helped put so many computer into peoples homes for the first time.

I used to work for a hosting type business in NYC a while ago, it was a large server facility with a plethora of very powerful machines. Upon quitting for my job at Raytheon, a manager who really took a liking to me gifted me two in box (previously used) Xeon E5-2690s as the company had already invested a lump sum in upgrades. I now run both of them on a dual-processor motherboard for my own personal server. They're amazing and serve me wonderfully. Favorite cpu? I think yes.

Phenom II X6. Defined a generation of enthusiast processors by being the first consumer hex-core processor. It also bridged the gap between DDR2 and DDR3 by offering CPU-based compatibility with either. It would be overshadowed by the introduction of the Core i7s in the following generations and eventually be forgotten to time. The truly depressing thing? Clock-for-clock, they outperform the current generation of FX 6xxx series processors.  A poor showing, AMD.

Still got this baby, first processor I ever had the pleasure playing with.

There were some crazy overclockers in the past, but my first dual core chip probably deserves the honor. Athlon64 X2 from 2005. Having two cores available was a revolutionary step.

The most Fun processor could be the AMD Duron which could have its multiplier changed by filling in little laser cut gaps with a soft graphite pencil...

definitely 486 DX2,

SX = SuX

1st place : Q6600

very close 2nd is any of the Celeron A's

+1 i have one on a Asus p5k worstation board, it just wont die! its overclocked from its 2.4ghz stock speed to 3.4ghz on a 20€ cooler. with only a slight overvolt

+1 Q6600 was an all around great processor... sadly mine died, but it is still, up to this day, my favorite processor I have ever owned

E8600. Hands down one of the best enthusiast CPUs ever fabricated.

+1 Definitely the best I've ever used. Bought mine in 2007. Overclocked past 3.2 GHz without squirming for 4.5 years and am now using it as a very stable server CPU at it's stock speed of 2.4Ghz.

Intel Pentium 60 - A80501-60 First CPU i ever had. Got to play around with some cool things on my windows for workgroups 3.11 used ROM overlays to add MMX extensions to it later for playing games this was a screaming CPU when I got it.

Thats awesome! Totally nerd

Amd 940be a world of firsts for me. Spent most of its life oc to 3.6 and a good amount of time at 3.9.

Favorite over all: q6600 core 2 quad. Heralded the modern generation of cpus, first 64 bit quad core oc'd like a baws(3.5ghz was not uncommon) still could be used decently last I checked if paired with a 7870 or something about that range.  Can't beat a next gen console but still holds its own against them if 3.5ghz or so, keep in mind it came out about the same time as the ps3 did in the EU and AUS. If that doesn't say "Bad ass motherf*****" for a cpu I don't know what does.  The e6600 core 2 duo is nice, and can hit 4ghz if luck with water, but the the two cores just don't cut it for today.

Favorite I have ever personally used, and runner up: i5 2500k. Similar reasons, overclocks like baws mine is 4.5ghz and I could still get more out of it, still beats any console. It may not be as revolutionary or have heralded in a new age for consumer cpus, but  first decently priced chip to easily hit well over 4ghz on air no less could last 8 years total or so if consoles keep holding us back. Just an amazing chip.

Favorite for what it is/was. Phenom ll x6. First consumer 6 core, was a very reasonable price when intel wanted hundreds of dollars for a 6 core(or anything with more than 4 threads) and let an amazing level of multi threaded performance reach the hands of the everyday person for pretty dang cheap all things considered.

Honorable mention. 8320. 8 cheap cores similar to the x6 but not as big of a middle finger. Still holds up great and it just freaking impresses me even a couple years later.

... It will be out in a few days.

Also had a pentium 120 that OCd to 133 all day long. First positive experience overclocking.

Ah I remember 133 MHZ my favorite CPU the Pentium 60 mhz I mentioned above was eventually upgraded with an Intel Overdrive 133 My first ever PC upgrade. It more than doubled my CPU speed. That sort of crazy if you think about it. I was in heaven when I hit 133 Mhz.

i do apologize i am quite drunk at this time . (drinking wild blue)

first test drive of amd was with there first release of a dual core consumer CPU my second test drive was with a amd phenom II x6 1100t BE i fell in love with amd since there first dual core cpu  fell further in love with the 1100t and now i am in heaven with an 8350. my first cpu way a dual layered intel cpu in a box running windows 3.1. i am sorry i do not remember what cpu this was but i know it was amazingly fast for its time . between my intel Pentium 2 and my dual layed intel and my dual core amd  i will say that my favorite for old processors way my dual layered intel.  first oc i had first pc i modded and first pc that i managed to totally fhk up at age 10.

for second favorite cpu i will have to give the first dual core amd a nod and my thanks. it gave me a true power boost over my intel  Pentium 2 that the Pentium 4 could not offer at the time.  was using  windows 95 and me at the time.  and the me machine with the amd was almost 3X as fast.  my least favorite cpu will for ever be the intel core two duo.  such a waste of money and a waste of effort on my part for an upgrade. my current favorite cpu is the phenom II x6 1100T BE i payed as much for it as an amd 8350 but it  just has the best power to performance per core  of any cpu that i have had.

amd you dropped the ball on the fx line per core performance took a major hit  performance per watt took a hit. and over all performance is not much better. i will not hide behind fanboy ism.  i do give credit to the 8 core processors  you have as being revolutionary. but you did drop the ball when it comes down to single core performance. disabling cores 7and 8 my phenom II 1100t kicks the shit out of my 8350 clock for clock core to core.

sadly  i have not played with any intel solution other than an i5 760 in a long time. and i can solidly say that  an intel and an amd cpu almost make no difference in modern games at 1080p. tested with wild star, Wallenstein the new order. sniper elite v3  and a few other games.
