Just curious, what would you say is your favorite 2D game of any type, top down, scroller... etc. It has to be modernish. Release after 2000 or 2005 or something? I'll start, For me it would have to be The Binding Of Isaac. With its mix of addictive gameplay, random level generation and over 200 items and infinite combination twinned with its amazing stylized graphics and clever story and references, that game is art. What about you?
Bastion, reason: I had fun and enjoyed it, which is rare for video games today
I would have to go with FTL.
A hard decision to make because there's been quite a few great modern 2D games like Fez (coming to Steam May 1st!), Dust: An Elysian Tail (also coming to Steam soon), Cave Story, Lone Survivor, Super Hexagon, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery, Beat Hazard Ultra, Mark of the Ninja, and Trials Evolution (though that might be stretching it a little)
I would second Bastion as well. Definitely one of my favorite games, but I'm not sure I'd call it 2D. It does mostly stay in that isometric view, but not really 2D in a "traditional" sense. Amazing game nonetheless.
I'd say Botanicula is my favorite modern 2d game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/207690/
Yeah, I agree isometric is not 2D
