I really liked the stuff that Tim Yeung made when he was with Decrepit Birth, he's amazing.
But their new drummer, KC Howard, is fucking great too, way overrated IMO.
Chris Adler, from Lamb of God. Wish I could find some decent videos.
nvm, he's pretty good ye
I'll be the one to say - Lars Ulrich:

My all time favorite is Bobby Jarzombek followed by Hanness Grossmann and Charlie Zeleny.
Some recordings of Bobby: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXpFrexDJ4A
Compared to the other drummers, especially the death-metal drummers who rarely put in some substance into their drumming and are all about speed, for this particular tempo of the Peppered Cancer song, Bobby's done some amazing work and his career spans with tons of different great bands.
My personal favorites are Thomas Haake and Danny Carey. Carey isn't known as a "Modern Metal" drummer but he kicks fucking ass with his intricate use of poly rhythms and poly meters and he doesn't rely so much on his straight dbl bass and doesn't play just blast beats like a lot of metal drummers. The most important thing is that he compliments and makes his band much better. The music revolves around his playing instead of the guitarist. Thats rare in today's music.
I know a lot of people don't like double bass, but mine would probably be Casey Grillo of Kamelot, since you asked "metal" drummers.
