Hey everyone, this is Treazonn here with my first post and is curious what is everyones favorite deathmetal album is :D
Mine by far right now has to be, Through The Eyes of The Dead's Album - Skepsis.
Great talent, riffs, breakdowns, solos, and they are brutal of course. Take a listen if you have not and also i highly suggest their previous album, Malice.
I think that the guitar, drums, and bass are sick in Death Metal but I absolutely cannot stand any kind of "screaming singing" as I like to call it. So I would like to ask is there any Death Metal out there that doesnt have some dude screaming?
Yeah, Death Metal is varied between the vocalists and some bands have two vocalists (Despised Icon) *RIP* by the way, but some do the growling to screaming/singing portions, and some are just straightup growls and lows throughout the whole song. Death Metal has seen its fair share of unique changes throughout the years so yeah.
Very hard for me to choose just one but Obituary's "The End Complete" is probably near tops for me. Mainly because I grew up listening to it and it's still a classic. I tend to listen to more Swedish death metal now, bands like Vomitory and Amon Amarth.
I really cant imagine death metal with clean vocals. So wrong. But maby you'll find some after digging a bit, otherwise you will have to try a more progressive style.
btw, Treazonn, you have never heard of Devildriver? *confused*
Same here, hard to choose one album from the hundreds of bands I've heard. For me it'll be a split between "Blood Rapture" by Vomitory and "Mark Of The Legion" by Deeds of Flesh
If I were to choose only one death metal album then I think that I would have to go with Hour Of Penance - Sedition. Awesome album, and they play tech death by the way. Pretty similar to Fleshgod Apocalypse in some ways.
Growls, Grunts, Screams and Shrieks are tenets of Death Metal so I'd recommend you shift your focus from that genre to another variant of the metal genre. Devin Townsend in his various projects utilizes a clean vocalization in conjunction with that "screaming singing" stylization but in a much more palatable manner than say Lord Worm, and while still retaining that raw metal power. Jacob Hansen of Anubis Gate has a great voice, which he uses to cleanly sing accompanied by groovy power metal tunes. Like I stated earlier, constant cleans aren't a standard in Death Metal and I'm not aware of any bands that use such style. However if you take a step back into the Metal genre you can find loads of artists in that genre's variants. The Power, Heavy, Progressive, Folk, Thrash, and Stoner Metals have a fair amount of clean vocalists whereas the Doom, Technical, Brutal, Slam, and Black Metals generally rely on that "screaming singing" you spoke of. As far as Favourite Death Metal album goes, I'd have to say Lykathea Aflame's "Elvenefris" is my favourite. The instrumental prowess in superb, the lyrics are outstanding, and the concept is phenomenal. The lyrics destroy our notions and assumptions of what metal lyrics commonly are. Ptoe (vocalist and lyricist) vividly portrays the human condition in his lyrics and the struggle, pain and sadness associated with it. Its all about spiritual ascension and the difficulty of getting "Home", which I interpret to mean Heaven. Its beautiful. Just listen, it sounds like a train is coming at you. Then you're hit, and you're hit hard. However you're hit with something that contrasts the music so sweetly and with so much thought; the lyrics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_DmmiCObOc
